Chicken gravy is the best for mashed potatoes. If you're having some other style of potato, then maybe beef.

Mash with a potato masher? Holy shmoly, NO! Steve G has darn close to each little thing ideal, yet when i'm making proper, creamy, silken comfortable potato puree there is not any way in hell i'm mashing them up like a camp prepare dinner on the rigs in Alberta. you want, a minimum of a "ricer". this completely low cost piece of kit will replace your potato eating existence. All it really is is an vast garlic press. because of this you could not "mash" mashed potatoes. once you knead cooked potatoes to a lot it develops gluten... and it develops quickly. bear in mind granny's mashed potatoes that tasted like friggin glue? this is what i'm talking about. you could be gentlewith them. newborn gloves, human beings. also: Yukon golds are fantastic potatoes, yet as well they're the most unpredictable. How previous they're adjustments extensively their characteristics. Potatoes are not harvested year round, so that you will be getting some that are very nearly a year previous! it is the way you counter this: really of 100% yukons. Throw some good previous formed russets or kennebecs into the blend. this would stability out any waxiness of the yukons.

depends on what you are serving with it. If beef then you need beef gravy, chicken needs chicken gravy, etc. I personally prefer beef gravy.
