Both of my legs have an edema problem. I have just recently been treated for both of my legs because of open sores on both legs. My legs were compresion wrapped for 3 weeks. When I was told I coud remove the wraps, I did so just to find out that now I have Big Red Welts on both legs and Lobster Red Skin. I have never had this problem ever happen before. Eight years ago I had a clot in my left calf. Because of it, I now have the edema (dry skin) in which I have to use dry skin cream (Eucederm) liberally on my legs. The right leg just had the dry skin problem within the last 2 years. The left leg, 10+ years. I am Diabetic which contributes to the problem and poor circulation. Does anyone have a similar problem? How has it been treated. I have to go to the wound clinic at my VA to have the legs treated. It is most frustrating. Any and all help/suggestions are appreciated. Have had to go to the wood clinic for the last 3 years. Have had to be treated with antbiotic 4 times.

Edema is the swelling of the legs. It sounds from your description that you are really swollen. I'm not sure how old you are or how long you have had diabetes, but if its been a while (20+ years), you could be close to kidney and/or heart failure. Something most people don't know is when your blood sugar is too high, your organs suffer and eventually give out. Please take care of yourself and get into see a doctor who specializes in diabetes. Also, you are obviously a veteran, did you just do a short stint or did you retire. If you retired, you need to get out of the VA and go to a regular doctor.

I don't really have any of those... Kind of the money problem because I am a poor college student but my parents help me out a lot so that is really appreciated. As far as the love department, I have been single for about 2 years but I honestly think it's God's will. I mean, I am incredibly indicisive and still trying to figure out who I am. Plus, being single and on the edge of 21 is a pretty damn good time. Cheers :-)

Whether you have edema or eczema, diabetics can also get a fungus condition that can spread throughout the body - Candida. It definitely can cause eczema, and can make diabetes worse.

Antibiotics help candida grow and flourish by removing the candida yeast's natural inhibitors, the main one is acidophilous (like in yogurt).

For basic information on candida infestations, you may want to check out the yeast link at www.hufa.org.

Im wondering if you truely mean "edema" - which would be a type of swelling or "eczema" which would be red, scaly dry skin. It is possible to have edema AND dry skin from the bandages - but your post isnt very clear. Many diabetics have edema.

If you care to clarify, I'd be happy to tell you what more I know. Feel free to email me.

edema is not dry skin, but it means swelling. your legs are the way they are because of your diabetes. keeping your sugars in the normal range will help, proper hygene, taking care of even little scratches. talk to your doctor about your concerns, check out diabetic web sites, support groups.

if your diabetic, have you been tested for HCV? Rashes are common in those with HCV and since your a veteran, chances are that is not only why you have the rash, but diabetes as well.
(they run hand in hand)
Veterans have a 75% infection rate. (jetshot gun transmission)
good luck!
