You will need to slowly build up your stomach's capacity. Train regularly at all-you-can-eat buffets until you can eat enough to make them throw you out and change the sign to read "All-You-Can-Eat...at the Mgr's Discretion). Try to eat as much hamburger as possible to extend your tolerance, but stop eating beef completely (or as close as you can get to completely) about 3 - 4 weeks before, so your not overwhelmed by it when you make your attempt.
Then, the day before, drink as much water and other non-carbonated beverages as your stomach will let you pour in, stretching it to its limits.
Don't any breakfast that day, but a couple hours before, eat a small snack (like a few crackers, or a small piece of fruit) to get the stomach ready for food.

Don't forget to exercise a lot, a lot-a lot. Especially a lot of aerobic and anaerobic workouts, not worrying too much about weight training. This will help not only with the extreme caloric increase from the gastronomic training, but if you can actually lose weight, you'll be in better shape to handle the physical strain and stress the attempt will put on your body, and you will rid yourself of that "fat band" or whatever the competitive eating community calls it.
Also, keep your cardiologist on standby, and a friend with a cell phone with 911 dialed, and holding their finger over the "Send" button.

When actually eating it, try to eat as little of the bun as the rules allow (ie "crumbs" falling off as you eat), and only drink the minimum amount of water necessary to down the food. If there are side dishes involved, save them for last, because they're going to be either starchy, or fiber-dense, like fries, baked potato, or salad.
Eat the lettuce, onions, tomato, etc. first, then the meat, and then the bun, followed by any sides.

Step 1. Leave metal neck chains at home as they will pose a problem when the paramedics attempt to use the defibrulator. If possible, rub conducting gel on chest at home to save time.
Step 2. Make sure Last Will and Testament are up to date.
Step 3. Wear new underwear.

You have to practice eating alot of food for a week or 2 before hand. If you practice filling your stomach for a week prior your stomach will grow and it is safer to eat more on the day you choose to eat a 550 pound burger. I have to suggest you not do it though because it is not good to eat that much fat at once.
