I know this is a New Zealand favorite and I'm curious about what's in it? Are there bugs in it?

Well, I have always wondered this myself - I've tasted it and it is so salty, it gives anchovies a run for their money. This is what wikipedia says about it :"Vegemite is made from leftover brewers' yeast extract, a by-product of beer manufacture, and various vegetable and spice additives. The taste is difficult to describe but is extremely salty and slightly bitter, and as might be expected, malty, similar to the taste of beef bouillon."
Marmite is similar and sold in the British Isles. Vegemite is owned by Kraft, Marmite by Best Foods.

Its a very salty black vegetable extract with yeast and salt very potent you only need 1/10 of a teaspoon or less for two slices of toast. Us in Australia think peanut butter and jelly (jam here) is gross! So I guess its whatever you grow up with.

As the name suggests its totally veggie and vegan friendly so animal products

Vegimite is originally an Australian spread that the Americans bought from us. I don't really care because I don't like Vegimite but a lot of Australians do. It is made from a yeast extract as you already know.

it is a spread made in australia and it comes in a jar. it says that kraft makes it, so i don't think there are bugs in it. i know, it ends in -mite, but the word is probably from australia or new zealand or somewhere. here are some pictures:

It's actually an Australian product - beef extract, any more detail than that - you don't want to know. But it tastes good on a nice fresh crust with lots of butter.

There are no bugs in it, but there will be bugs on it.
