Because they are tired of sitting on your lap and want you to sit on theirs for a change.. :D

Because they think they are the dominant dog in the house. If you set yourself up as the alpha dog, then your animal wont jump on chairs and beds with out your ok. And if your sitting with them, they will take up as little room as possible. Not only that but wouldn't you like to stretch out if you laying around the house?

They think everything belongs to them. It is pretty bad when the dogs that take over the bed, couch and chair are chihuahuas, which is what happens in my case:-)

ours does not use the furniture - it really depends on how a dog is trained and how he/she perceives the humans and their belongings. Our dog knows exactly which toys and blankets and pads are his and which are our furniture and toys. And he respects that.
However - the training needs to happen early in life, it's best in their first year of life.

they wanna be comfortable and at the same time cuddle w/ you. but if they start getting pissed if you take "their" chair-then you have a problem

that's easy its because they want to be in your pach as close as possible. They love you lots when they do that. My great dane does it all the time lol
