Child is normal weight -- maybe a little underweight, male, 6rys old. Just wondered if this is typical for child check-ups. Has your child's blood pressure ever been taken? In what circumstances? Thanks!

Yes usually at age 5 they start getting their blood pressure checked. Its part of the regular physical. I worked in a doctors office for 2.5 years.

My daughter goes to the Pediatrician once a year for her "well baby" check. Each time, they check her blood pressure. They've noted it was high a couple times, but she was usually excited about something and they let it go. She's never been high twice in a row. Also, usually when she has any sort of visit, they check her bp. She had pneumonia a year ago....they checked it in the ER and the follow-up visit in Peds. I should note, we're in the Army, so we go to a military hospital/Peds.

You really have nothing to worry about. That's a good thorough appointment if they do check. Be glad they did.

At the children's doctor I went to, all children get their blood pressure checked, sick or healthy, either way.

Yes, it's typical. My son has had it done since he was 5 - and he is healthy. He is 8 now and usually gets it done at his yearly checkup.
