Back when satan was an angel, why did God disown him? If he did something wrong, was it bad enough for God not to forgive him?

Sin was found in him...pride..he wanted it all for himself and thought that he was bigger than God..so he was kicked out of heaven along with the angels that chose to follow him.

And for the other part of your question...one has to want forgiveness to receive it.

We do not know all the answers to why Satan's sin (as well as the 3rd of the angels that rebelled with him) was unpardonable. The Bible doesn't give us all the answers. Perhaps it is because when Satan and the angels rebelled there was nobody to entice them. They commited high treason against the Almighty. You can read about Satan's fall in Isaiah 14:12-16 & Ezekiel 28:12-19. There is a lesson we can all learn from Satan's fall. The root of his sin was pride as you will see if you read those passages.
Satan, the Bible says, is totally evil—and yet he can disguise himself so people don't even realize who he is. In fact, the Bible says that sometimes "Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light" (2 Corinthians 11:14, KJV). Satan's goal is always to stop God's work. He tried to stop Jesus from going to the cross for our sins, and he will try to keep you from God.

Satan is real—but don't concentrate on him. Concentrate instead on Jesus, because He is stronger than Satan, and by His death and resurrection He defeated Satan. The Bible says, "The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work" (1 John 3:8). Ask Jesus to come into your life today because God loves you and Jesus wants you to walk with Him every day.

If you look at the Book of Job you see that Satan is not truly banished from heaven, not yet. You see Satan going between heaven and earth, accusing us before God. In the book of Revelation, you see him cast out of heaven permanently (Revelation 12:7). Heaven rejoices in verse 12 because the accuser is finally gone. But woe to the earth!

These things will happen in the end times.

In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.

The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of God plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.

Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.

Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.

Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

Satan wanted to be God, he led 1/3 of the angels to rebel with him against God. They were hurled out of heaven.
Praise God that the other 2/3 angels will return with Jesus to battle against satan & his crew in the final battle!

Lucifer was the angel of the morning star, and was said to be the most beautiful and powerful thing residing in heaven. Next to God of course. However because of this he commited the sin of Hubris and began to think of himself as capable of challenging God's commandments. He rallied other angels and basically attempted to overthrow God...

Obviously it didn't work, he was cast out of Heaven along with his followers and landed in Hell. As for the reason why he hasn't been forgiven, it's likely that if he truly and honestly asked God for forgiveness that God would indeed forgive him. However he is too prideful to ever do that, and thus remains in Hell.

Satan was a perfect spirit who rebelled against God by trying to turn mankind against Him. He succeeded with Adam and Eve. Today, as the scriptures say, he is misleading the entire inhabited earth. (Rev. 12:9)

He was the most handsome and talented of all the archangels. Unfortunately, he became full of himself and thought that he was equal to his creator. In the ensuing battle, he lost and was sent to the bowels of the earth.

Of course this is very descriptive language from an ancient culture. It was used to explain why evil is in the world. It would have been impossible for finite, human beings to know about a heavenly battle.
