That is covered in this. Click on 3rd link, Helpguide. Then click "healthy eating." Then click "healthy weight loss." Tells how diet works. Gives expert opinions-- pro and con.

Good carbs like celery and carrots will never make you fat. Bad carbs like cake will, but you don't need to know the whole science of glycemic index and load. It is mostly NOT your fault, if you need to lose weight. The way we have been taught to eat is responsible for making obesity the number one health problem in the world (according to Atlantic Monthly magazine) replacing hunger and infectious disease. You need to re-learn how to eat so you can become thin. Not a diet, but diet lifestyle.

Find out about fastest way to lose weight, gradual ways to lose weight, most effective exercise, good and bad carbs and anti-water. Lose bodyfat and retained water which also makes you a lot fatter (bloated). Links page has gov. BMI calculater to find out just how much overweight you are (teens plug in your age to compare to others your age). Most important-- make sure to read the last "fat loss tip", first before anything else, to see the number one food that causes Americans to be fat. Click on home page after looking at Atkins.

First of all, forget Atkins and all the other nonsensical, no-basis-in-science-diets and stick with a legitimate, healthy eating plan. Nutritional science has proven that excessive protein intake, like Atkin's promotes, is very dangerous and can permanently damage your kidneys and liver. The Atkin's Diet is so popular because it says you can eat all the crap you've always eaten- pork rinds, bacon, cheeseburgers and gobs of cheese- and you'll lose weight anyway. What they don't tell you is that no long-term studies exist that prove the safety or wisdom of that approach. I believe we are about to see an entire generation of people who've permanently destroyed their health because of this kind of diet. I'll concede that people do lose weight on Atkins-but it's usually temporary and they are not healthy. Cancer causes people to lose weight too, but I certainly wouldn't promote it as a legitimate approach.

Carbs are not the enemy. We need carbs like your car needs gasoline-you're body won't run without them. The problem is that most people's diet consists of bad sources such as white flour, donuts, potato chips and soda. You might as well be eating table sugar all day.

A sane eating plan includes all of the food groups-lean meat, whole grains, fruit, fresh vegetables and unsaturated fat- none of which you get on Atkins. Any diet that tells you to eliminate entire food groups from your diet is immediately suspect as fraudulent.

Believe what you want but science is on my side.
