Indoor/outdoor in a multicolor pattern with no set design that is med. in colors. Too light will show stains and too dark will show stings, and dust, etc. I would use hardwood or just stain the concrete! The stained concrete with polished wax is beautiful and can look like marbel or beautiful tile but cost pennies per ft. It only needs a dust mop for cleaning.Or you could do the carpet in part and where the kids will be more active use tile or the concrete. My sister has had it for several years and it is great.

In a family room with kids? There will be spills. There will be stains. So get a cheap grade of carpet -- you're going to have to replace it in about 5 years anyway.

Berber carpet is a must with kids. Its very durable. I wouldnt go too dark or too light. Try maybe a taupe or tan color. Usually the design of berber incorporates other colors in it (hard to explain) but it makes wear and tear and stains hard to see.

I personally would not use carpet in a proposed "family/game room"

Hard wood flooring will stand the test of time and brings a "classical" feeling to the area.

Try looking into pergo/ hardwood flooring before you make a decision.
Hope I was helpful.
GOOD LUCK!!

different colors have different meanings and they can stimulate different feelings depending on shade. if you want something out of the ordinary try yellow, blue, red, purple, or green, but these would be VERY different for the norm, if i were you I'd go with a tan or a sand color and then paint the walls a fun color. if you want more information on the meanings and feelings certain colors bring feel free to contact me, I've studied colors and there meanings for a while so i know these things!!! Hope you find what you want!!!
God Bless!!!

I would suggest you think about this -- Kids are hard on homes as it is -- and especially on Carpet -- which is why I REMOVED the carpet from the common areas, used tile, and put down (cheap) throw rugs -- because then I could just replace those throw rugs as they started looking ratty.

I've found that a Berber carpet in brown tweed holds up well and lasts through little ones stains.

My aunt put down a low pile berber-type rug in colors that looked like someone melted a giant box of crayons! Crazy, but effective!

I'd go with a burber style (they look much better today than when we were kids!) and they are available in a variety of colors. Heavy duty for kid traffic and durable to last for the budget!
