If he is not OK with it, there is nothing you can do. You didn't mention how you know this man but its not uncommon to have a crush on an older guy.....who wouldn't, most older men have their **** together. And lets face, younger guys usually don't, lol (No offense guys).
Actually I am somewhat impressed that he resisted. Most men would be all over a hot young thing just to feel young again. You didn't mention how much of an age difference other than to say it was "pretty big". If you are in your 20's, you should look for a man in his 20's as well. As you get older, an age difference is not as big a deal, but it can still cause problems. Look at it this way, think of 3 things that you absolutely love to do. Can you see this man also enjoying those things? It's best to find someone with whom you have some things in common.

I'm the older guy, and am fortunate to look younger than I am. I have dated girls, twenty years younger than myself.
Sometimes it worked out, other times it didn't.
Women being more mature than us men, it is really up to them, to make the relationship work.
If he has a problem, with the age gap, and believe me, we men, usually do. Its a bit like robbing the cradle, and hard to get over in ones mind.
I am talking about two adults here, not minors. If they want to make it work, it can.
But as the onus is more on the man, it's up the girl, to prove his thoughts on the age gap, are wrong.
That's what did it for me.
It didn't work out in the long run, but, it did for over a year and a half. We just had other issues. It wasn't the age gap.
So, convince him, that it doesnt matter to you. You did say, the gap was big, and the bigger it is, the harder it will be for you both.
Good luck.

Age shouldn't make a difference unless you feel uneasy together. The big difference might be the friends you keep. His will be older and probably not able to handle the immature younger crowd. He ,himself will be on the inside the young man he was at whatever age and only be different outside which time has deteriorated. How does he feel about children??This is a big thing that should be discussed. You could end up with a long happy marriage also.

When I was in school I once read that males are six years physiologicaly behind women. Example.....If you are a 30yr female and 30yr male dating, then its possible the male is 24 years old mentally. Also consider what the basis of having a relationship would be with someone that is a generation older or younger than you. I have found that in all of my romantic relationships that the six year rule is a great application to use when defining the relationship....kinda weird but true for me.

I wouldn't have a problem with it...
personality fit is more important than ANY age diff..

been there - I didn't have a problem with age then (or now) either,
so I may not be qualified to answer...

ours was 20+ years difference...
she broke up with me - I still care for her tho.
we've both moved on, I believe..
I know people with an even greater age diff and it is still working.
most of my friends are 20+ years age diff anyway and they didn't mind...

If HE has a problem with the age diff, do you really think YOU can make it work?

Why don't you just be friends and he may change his mind, tho?

in an unrelated news story, you may too.

I believe "soul mates are soul mates"....!

good luck.

My husband is 16 years older than me. However he's never had a problem with our age difference. You have to let him know that age is just a number. It's how you two feel about eachother that counts.

i think the reason why you like older men is because a fathers presence in your life was never there. OR you Dad didnt really gave you that much attention or affection. LOVE is a special feeling between a men and a women. Are you sure you are IN love with this men? or you LOVE his protection something that a dad will usually do?

He may see you as a daughter figure, or too young for his tastes. No doubt he'd like to do it with a younger gal, but he values maturity in a relationship. He probably is through with parenting, and you would want him to start all over.
best take this one slow!
Besides, he might croak before you could have a good time!

If he has a problem with it then the relationship really doesn't have much of a chance to become anything important. Some things just aren't meant to be. Good Luck!!

Normally, he should have strong feelings for you, but if he has not, that could have 2 meanings: either you are not matching or h eis hiding his feelings, coz he likes you and wants to protect. Find out which case is yours. If it's the first one, better to forget about him, cause it is sorta impossible for you to match! If it is second one, you can work it out!
