Nobody did, it was, in reality a Schrödinger cookie jar that you were looking at. The cookie both existed and didn't exist inside of the jar while the jar was closed, the cookie came into a state of quantum collapse and dissapeared from existance when you opened the jar hoping for it to be there, sorry to say :-)
