My sister had her baby 10 months ago and she gained 57 pds. She and I have always been active and worked out together, but now she is lazy and tired all the time. She complains about her weight all the time (she is 169), but she won't do anything about it. I know having a child can be tiring but it really isn't healthy for her to be the way she is right now. Eating Big Macs and flipping through channels isn't exactly healthy. I have tried getting her to go to spin/kick boxing classes with me but she won't. When she comes over to my house I make healthy meals but she wants to order out...and its not the healthy stuff. How can I motivate my sister to get back on track?

Post pictures of super models and skinny girls all over her fridge...use some of her skinny photos too from back when she was thin, it could get her motivate. It worked for me. I look at my old photos and I joined a boxing gym. Now I take the class at least three times a week so I can look like my old self.

Ask her to go for a walk with you.
Get her outdoors as much as possible even for short walks.
It's likely she's very tired at the moment from the baby and when you are tired you tend to eat more food for energy and often choose foods that give you energy quickly.
These are usually high carb foods that make you feel good for a short while but make you 'slump' soon after and thus starts the vicious circle of eating for energy and eating foods that reduce energy in the long term and add weight.
Take a water bottle on your walks and you will be amazed at how the energy levels, correct eating and weight loss will change by making these small adjustments.

you can suggest things, but you can't change a person. sometimes when you have a baby it can change how the hormones are.

it's been 10 months so more than likely the baby is sleeping through, but if not, that could be why she is tired.

i do think however, she may need a doctors visit to make sure her thyroid is okay.

i complain about my weight all the time too, but there is not much for me to do about it since my thyroid is messed up and the doc doesn't want to go by the new normal values.

I am in the same boat i had a baby 11 months ago i lost the weight at first by breast feeding then i got really busy and gained it all back. Try to motivate he by doing different things like with her and sit down and have a heart to heart with her and let her know that you really care about her and you want her to eat healthy try taking the baby sometimes to get some mommy time. and if the father is in the picture try to get him to help out more around the house it sounds like she is over exhausted and needs a break

Wow. Motivation is the hardest thing to do. Trust me. I've been trying to motivate my mother to loose some weight, but to no avail. Just casually ask her: "Hey. I'm going for a walk. Care to join me?" Walking has been proven to be the best exercise. Perhaps you can convince her to go shopping with you on the weekends. That's another way to get her up and exercise by walking around.

People have been given free will to choose what they want. Respect that. My home page is about losing people but I do not try to force anyone. Maybe you should find more happiness for your self. This will help with that. You could offer her some all raw food bars for a snack (bottom of page). Home page explains why raw foods help her get thin.

It has to be something that she wants to do, just be there for her and be positive and motivational but don't push it to much she'll get aggravated and she won't want to loose it, when she really wants to fit back in her pre-baby clothes she will
