First I salute you for your decision to join.
A few items that will help and are overlooked: a travel iron (all uni's have to be pressed, bring your own), sewing kit (you may need to adjust your pant legs until they can be sent out to be done) so learn to sew. Spit polish your boots right away before your TI has to tell you (extra points). Volunteer for laundry duty, it gives you time away from the others to study, polish boots, write home, etc. Volunteer as a chapel guide, it gets you out of a lot of Sunday GI parties (cleaning your dorm). You don't have to attend service if you don't wish, just seat others. Most of what you will do is classroom, no long hikes or silly stuff.
Hope this helps a little and good luck

THE FIRST THING YOU NEED TO KNOW ONCE YOU GET THERE IS HOW TO PUT A SIR IN YOUR MOUTH. YOUR T.I. WANTS TO HEAR SIR, YES SIR, AND NOT ANY BIG LONG TRIADS ABOUT WHY. THEY ALSO EXPECT YOU TO DO EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE TOLD, WHEN YOU ARE TOLD TO. NO ARGUMENTS THERE EITHER. THIS IS BECAUSE IN A TIME OF WAR, THE SERGEANT MAY GIVE YOU AN UNDESIREABLE JOB BUT IT NEEDS TO BE DONE AND NOW FOR THE GOOD OF ALL OTHERS.
AS FAR AS FOLDING CLOTHES AND MAKING YOUR BED, THAT WILL BE COVERED RIGHT IN THE BEGINING AND IT WILL BE VERY CLEAR HOW TO DO IT. JUST FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS.

Your recruiter that you will enlist with will be the best provider of this kind of information. The army actually have what they call DEP functions. During these functions the recruiters teach new applicants how to do some basic skills that they will learn at basic.
Good luck to you!!

Let them teach you the bed making. This way you won't have any bad habits to erase. Just get into shape, and they'll take it from there. All you need is what is on your list and a good attitude. You'll do just fine.

Nothing, they will provide you with a tutor, several actually, and they will tell you exactly what you need to do.
