Itching is one sign of an allergic reaction and fur loss is another. They could also get red spots and dry in the mouth.

he could be allergic to fleas or something in his diet. Fleas are easy to take care of... when you give your dog a bath let the soap set on him for about 10 minutes. That will suffocate any fleas that are on him. Then rise him off and give him a good flea dip. I use Zima. It has done well for me. Read the directions carefully. pour it especially over the spot where your dog is itching the most. It will help dry that area up and take away the itching. If it is his food you will need to pay close attention to what is in it. The modify it to make sure the hot spots don't come back again.
Constant sneezing, swelling of the nose, dry mouth, constant itching

Check your dog for a rash on its skin. If your dog has itched til its red and raw I would suggest you take it to the vet and make sure there isn't anything major going on like a skin problem or a bite. If you don't think the spot is major enough to take the dog to a vet and if it doesn't look infected try to use some antibodic creme on it (the same you use on yourself). Don't worry if the dog licks it off keep applying it 2 to 3 times per day and it will heal really well.

itching is one sign that your dog is allergic to something. Some other signs could be red sore ears, licking and chewing on his paws and rashy looking skin.
My dog is allergic to beef and he gets red sore ears when he eats it. He's also allergic to certain pollens and seems to be itchier in the spring and early summer. And just one flea bite sets him off on a itching frenzy.

Is your pet on a flea control? If not this could be the problem.Alto of breeds are more allergy prone than others. cocker spaniel,Lhasa apso, shits tzus etc are just a few.Your vet can recommend whats best for your pet to alleviate the itching.

if your dog is allergic to something he will be losing his hair around the area that he is scratching in. you may want to take him to the vet and they will put him on medicine. I had the same problem with my lab, she was allergic to most of the dogfoods cause alot of them have fillers, which meant the food had alot of corn in it and that was what she was allergic to.. good luck
