my kitten is 3 wks old, and I believe its tail is broken. all of its hair is gone around a part of the tail and it is just hanging there. What can I do to make her more comfortable, the vet wants $40 jsut to look at her. I think that part will just fall off. What do you think??

I do feel very sorry for my little kitten, it is 1 of 5 my cat had. I feel taking her to the vet is the best thing to do. I just was asking for thoughts if anyones cat has had this situation and if it is going to fall off or the vet will have to take it off. I dont want my kitten to get sick. I have to wait untill tomorrow to get her in, they are all closed at this time. I am concerned and we are taking the best care of her until we give her away to another home. Thank you.

please take this cat to the vet. i'm sure the poor baby is in terrible pain and seriously, how would you like it if your arm was broken and your folks didnt wanna take you to the doctor because they didnt want to spend any money on you. what a selfish thing to do. i'll bet it would be unacceptable if any of your body parts were just hanging there like that. would you wait for them to fall off?

I agree with all of the others who said get it to a vet IMMEDIATELY!
The tail may not be broken. An x-ray will tell your vet if it is.
Many years ago, a neighborhood stray that I had just adopted came to me with his tail just hanging and it turned it out that in a fight another cat had bitten him right at the base of the tail where the muscle that controls tail movement is located. It's called the "elevator muscle".
The vet had to take about 1 inch off the bottom of the tail because the tip of the tail was dragging on the ground and bleeding. He did this while Ralphie was under general anethesia when I had him neutered so he didn't feel a thing.
The vet put him on a diet of canned food that was very high in vitamins and to everyone's surprise, Ralphie regained complete use of his tail in about a month.
But NONE of this good stuff would have happened if I hadn't taken him to the vet FIRST!!
As for not being able to afford the $40 office visit for the vet, you have to get your priorities straight. Your attitude towards pet ownership, frankly, sucks. ANY vet is going to charge you a fee for seeing the animal and if you are reluctant to pay that, don't have a pet. Sorry to sound harsh, but my main concern is the welfare of your 3-week old kitten. Would you let a child suffer like this? Think it over.
In the meantime, please take that kitten to the vet immediately--payment arrangements can be made with the vet's office in advance. They need to get paid, too. Do you work for free??

i want to ask how long the tail has been like this but I really don't know the answer. Take your kitten to the vet. Since you can't take him tonight, you could atleast taken the time to call other vets besides your regular doctor, emergency pet clinics.. there should be alteast one! you could also try humain societies and shelters for help too. You should have done this during the day. You should also have done this right away instead of keeping your kitten in that condition! I'm trying really hard not to get cruel with you, but if this is how you treat your pets, you should consider not breading as well.

Let this be a lesson for you. Do you have to have a cell phone? Do you have to have high-speed internet connection? Do you have to have the most expensive cable package? Do you have to have latte's every day, or a delivered pizza, or even go to a movie every time you might wish to?
The answer to all those questions is NO. Does your kitten need to see a vet? YES
If you manage your life in such a way that you never have money for what is important then that kitten is here to teach you an important life lesson.
Get a very large jar and every few days empty your quarters and dimes into it. When it is full you will have some money to give in good faith to a vet to help your suffering kitten or cat.

You seriously need to take it to the vet. They'll amputate that part of the tail if not all of the tail. You are NOT a bad pet owner. Oh and the vet will use anesthesia so it won't be painful. Good Luck!

If there is a VCA near you (under Vet in the Yellow Pages), take her right NOW! They will work out a payment plan or sometimes take a post-dated check so your kitten can be treated now. Don't wait. Take her to the VET NOW. Good luck.

Bring it to the vet. If it is a decent vet, he will allow you to make payment arrangements. What you are doing to the animal now is neglect, and if it gets an infection in the tail it could die.
