Not stupid.
People wrap it in foil thinking it is a baked potato. When you do that you are steaming the potato. The only way to bake a potato is cooking them naked. They come out cooked better with more flavor. They come out soggy when you put it in the foil.

Yes they actually come out better without the foil. Make sure you Wash them well and put a little oil on them before baking.
Bake at 350 degrees for about an hour to an hour and a half.
Top with butter, sour-cream, green onions, bacon bits or shredded cheese, or just your favorites.
Enjoy!

Yes, but you may want to oil the skins so they dont' dry out in the oven.
OR
Wash, poke w/ a fork a few times, and microwave for about 12 minutes for 4 large baking potatoes. Gently squeeze w/ a potholder before cutitng open to fluff them up. (this goes w/ any baked potato, not just nuked ones)

Yes you can bake them without foil and they turn out fine. Tip: rub a little oil over potatoes to keep skins from drying and cracking.

If you are Baking them in the oven you need to wrap them or the skin will got tough and crispy by wrapping them you keep some of the natural liquid in the potato.

Another alternative would be to prick holes in the skin, rub the skins in salt and put them in the microwave. Cooking time will vary depending upon your microwave oven's power. Some will have baked potato pre-set cooking options that will take the worry out of it.
Simple toppings include tuna mayonnaise (with/out sweetcorn), cheese and baked beans, cheese and coleslaw.

You don't have to poke holes in them, they won't 'splode like ppl say. Rinse w/water, place in 350 degree oven for 1 to 1 1/2 hrs.
After they cool, wrap in foil and store in fridge.

Yes. This works in the oven or microwave. Poke a few holes in them with a fork and cook. Personally, cooked this way, I don't care for the taste of the skins. But other than that, no real difference.
