There was no coffee left in the house this morning - my worst nightmare. Although I do not class myself as a heavy coffee drinker (maybe 3 cups a day) if I do not have that cup when I first get up I get headaches and feel terrible.

I don't want to give up coffee all together (it is my only guilty pleasure!), but I would like to be able to break this cycle of having to have a cup first thing in the morning.

Do you have any tips for what I could do to break my bodies dependence on caffeine without giving it up all together?

Several things, you could get 1/2 strength coffee (I think Maxwell house makes it), or cut the scoops in 1/2 that you use to make coffee. Instead of 3 cups a day, slowly wean yourself off of it by cutting back by 1/2 cup/day. OR....go cold turkey and go with decaffinated!

I've Got down to three cups of Coffee a day. I have Jasine Green Tea with a hint of lemon and a spoon of coffee. Plus a fix of fruit. Takes a week or so to get used too, but I'm running around like a twenty year old and i'm nearly 40. Email me and i'll give you more tips. A trip to Cafe Nero is as good as the pub now.

Only thing you can do is cut back little at a time (try 1/2 reg 1/2 decaf) instead of just stopping cold turkey and wait it out, took me a good 3 weeks for the headaches to stop (used to drink 1 pot of coffee a day, now 1 cup of decaf)

mix decaf coffee with regular (1/2 and 1/2). Start drinking black teas. They have caffeine but not as much as regular coffee.

Ya know funny thing. I drink alot of Coke and Coffee, and all of a sudden I stopped, And I experienced the same thing. Just try to ween yourself off of it. (kind of like smoking i guess) Just have a little less each day.

Good luck!

For those times that you don't have coffee in the house...go to your local Starbucks. That should do the trick. Why give up coffee?

High dose of vitamin C will help with detoxing from caffeine, how ever if you plan on continued use the only remedy is to moderate you consumption.

Caffeine is physically addictive - which is the source of your headaches.

You need to slowly wean yourself off of it as suggested in an earlier answer.
