I once lost a 23 year old cat. It's the same as any other kind of grieving, he is probably worried about the cat and needs time to deal with it and get it help one way or another. Think about any time you've had a really stressful problem that you had to deal with alone, did you want to have to deal with other things as well? Give him time, let him know you're there for him if he needs you and then back off until he comes to you. Use the time to go shopping or reconnect with some friends. If he loses the cat, be around to lend support if he needs it, let him know you sympathize. It sounds like he's the type who wants to work things out on his own, and he may feel like he doesn't want you to see him like this.
I hope the kitty makes it, but if not, all my sympathies to you and your boyfriend. Losing an old friend is a difficult thing.

When my cat died it was very hard for me. Mind you it happened pretty fast. I guess I was alittle moody. Some people don't understand that their pets, especially the ones that have been around for a very long time are like a member of the family. Just do what you can to help out with the cat, and be there to listen when he needs someone to talk to about this. Hang in there!

i might take her back to the vet as quickly as possible. Male cats generally get urinary blockages, it is an emergency, yet I certainly have basically seen one lady cat with a real urinary blockage, and it grew to become into through a bladder tumor. the actuality that blood is popping out is definitely extra effective than no longer something, because of the fact it potential a minimum of something is getting in the process the urethra. i might get a blood panel and yet another urinalysis. If the urine comes up constructive for bacteria, then ask for a urine custom and sensitivity, which will inform you one among those bacteria and what antibiotics will kill it. interior the intervening time, if the urine has bacteria and you do the custom, she would be in a position to be positioned on a extensive spectrum antibiotic, which incorporate Baytril to cover your bases. i might additionally request a bladder x-ray or ultrasound to rule out a tumor or bladder stone. Cosequin for Cats (or any intense high quality glucosamine/chondritin supplement interior the right dose) is used for arthritis, inspite of the undeniable fact that it additionally soothes the bladder partitions and decreases bladder inflammation. solid good fortune.

Well if he has a 20 year old cat, it's probably almost as old as he is meaning it's been his life long pet. That's really hard! Encourage him that fluffy has lived a life longer then most cats and that you'll be there for him! Don't take his crankiness personally!

Recently I lost my 18 year old Siamese Ra Ta. In that period of time he became more like a child than a pet and I grieved every bit as much as I do for people I love that died.
Listen, Listen, Listen and let me know you are there. When he feels grouchy remind him you love him and know the cat is an important part of his life.

Just sympathize with him. A pet is often treated like a family member. Just be there if he needs you, otherwise let him go through his mourning period. He will really need you if this cat passes away.
