there are no rules.about it.
Just do what the bride wishes.
the guests should never wear white unless the bride gives permision...like if the mother of the bride wore a white knee length suit or the mother of the groom.
I think the men in white and the moms of the bridal party in whatever shade of ivory or white they want just les grand than the Bgown would be lovely and then just the flowers and ribbons give the color to the event.
ask the guests to wear all bright colors fo even greater effect.

The rule used to be (and note the past tense) that only a virgin wore white on her wedding day. However, there are so many versions of off-white today -- just check out the bridal shops and you'll find dozens of gowns that look white, but are given some other fancy name -- that anyone who waltzes up to the altar can wear a gown that looks white.
A woman who has not previously married but who has a child is obviously not a virgin, but the rule today appears to be first weddings can be white weddings --and so many couples wait until they have had a child or two before they get married, that if this rule had not been changed, there would be precious few white weddings!
If you want to go back to the early 1900s, when the white wedding came into being (before that, brides wore any colour they wanted) the bride had the fanciest dress, but the bridesmaids also wore white. They were often young girls, so their white dresses would be decorated with white ribbons.
Today, you see bridesmaids wearing black dresses -- and it looks quite spectacular! And groomsmen wearing white tuxedos. Even the minister, or priest or whoever sometimes gets into the act by wearing white robes.
A friend of ours is a marriage commissioner ( he is able to perform weddings ) and the couples often do the whole thing in costume -- with his costume in keeping.
It really doesn't matter today who wears white at a wedding. And the child can be a junior bridesmaid, flower girl, or if it's a boy, the masculine equivalent.

I don't know if there are any "rules"..probably, there is for everything it seems. But, if I ever get married, I would probably wear off white...or something. I've never been married, but I have a child...so....if I was wearing white, who would I be trying to kid....:) The jig, as they say, is up. Maybe a white gown with some sort of color somewhere?....the beauty is, you can do whatever you want...it's your wedding.

Back in the day, a girl earned the right to wear white if she was a virgin, as that is what the white color used to signify...but today, that would mean about 80% of the brides are lying when they wear white. Thank goodness we don't really care to follow that tradition...you see there aren't like fashion laws out there in the real world.

The mother of the bride, and the groom's mother and any guests. The bride could wear white even if she was married 20 times before. She's the bride. The groom should never wear white, he'll look like the ice cream man.

actually, white does not signify purity. The white dress came to symbolize purity of heart and the innocence of childhood. Later attribution suggested that the colour white symbolized virginity which is false. However it was originally the colour blue that was connected to purity.
And actually traditional dresses were the color Sliver. It wasn't until Queen Victoria married in a white dress that it became popular. And tradition Italian wedding dresses were green for fertility.

I think most brides just kinda do whatever they want these days. I think its OK to wear white for your first wedding. And, lets me realistic, how many women are virgins when they get married anymore anyway? Not the majority I'm sure.

Traditionally only virgins wore white on their wedding day. Today it doesn't seem to matter any more. I went to a wedding where the Bride who had once been divorced and had a child wore a baby blue wedding dress and she looked beautiful

Who should not wear white at weddings....only the bride and if it is white tuxes for the men then they can wear white too.
The guests should wear any color (but not white) as long as they avoid looking like members of the weding party
ALL Brides can wear whatever color they want.
there are so many ivorys and winter whites and creams that also can be used if that would fit better.
