I am currently engaged now with my long distance fiance i met 12 years ago. When he popped out the questions I got excited and told my relatives about it that he's going to the Philippines and ask for my hand from my side of the family. I will also go there this December for our Civil Wedding. After a few days of excitement and me telling the news to my relatives he spoke to his sister about our plans and advised him for us to do a secret marriage due to the fact the their parents may not agree for him to marry soon because of his parents are afraid they will lose financial support when we are married and secondly, that I have 2 kids from a previous relationship, but i was never married with the father of my two children. My problem is, how will I tell my side of the family that it will be just a secret marriage and not the traditional pilipino ways of how they ask their daughter for marriage.

Ok, since we are both Filipinas, I know exactly what you mean by the "traditional" Filipino wedding. Now, if you and your fiance are going to get married, why not just do it the right way the first time? Why go through the secret/civil wedding thing? Second, I am guessing that his parents live in the Philippines and he works here in the states and that is why he is supporting them, right? Well, let them know that even though their son is getting married, that you guys are still willing to support them. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. But, make sure that you let his parents know that once you get married, your new family comes first. Let them know that you are willing to support them to the best of your ability. They need to know that once their son gets married, he may not always be able to send money or whatever else he sends to them. I think that your fiance's parents just need reassuring that they won't be neglected. Goodluck!!!

Just tell them straight out. There's nothing wrong with telling your parents and relatives the truth about what's going on in your life. And why would you want a secret marriage. You also should make sure your kids understand what you're doing.

Honey, get ready it wont the last time they interfere with your day! Why would they lose financial support? is he supporting them? If he is there is a problem you'll have for the rest of your marriage I can promise you that. Tell him how much you love him and if he decides to have a secret wedding tell him its off until he can stand up to his parents and tell them the truth regardless of your past or his past. He is marrying you not your family and vise versa.

I don't know if I understand your question.

Are you planning one original secret wedding, then another fake one? That is extremely rude and offensive-- to lie to people about what they are witnessing. You get one wedding per marriage.

You are adults (I hope). Get married ONCE and let everyone know.

Wow, what kind of future in-laws are these people that they PUT their own needs before THEIR SON'S? I see trouble brewing and I think that the sister is MEDDLING. Do it the right way. There is no need for him to be ashamed or have to HIDE you from his parents. OUCH...good luck girl
