Hello. I want to know what you need to do to show dogs. When I am older, i would like to show dogs, probably Irish Wolfhounds or Rottweilers. I just want some info on how to enter, and other stuff I should know about dog shows. I do know the basic stuff, so I am not completely clueless. I have looked online, and in books, but I want to know as much as possible. Thank you so much for helping.

I have done every kind of showing and I even host some shows around England. You can e-mail me or the AKC Kennel Club. They will help you find a show near you and stuff. You can ask me for farther questions.

You go to handling classes and go to a LOT of shows and see what is what. Most all entries are done via phone or online nowdays.
Get yourself a dog and do handling class and then enter in junior show a few times and see if you like it. The dog does not have to be a great example to show it in junior show. They are judging the handler. If you can find a breeder of any breed near you that will allow you to help and learn, that would be great. Many breeder/owner handlers would welcome a helper!!! After a while being a "bucket bit ch" ..standing ringside with towels, combs, brushes, spray bottle..and handing off dogs......you could be ready to step in the ring yourself!!!!! Watching is the best way to learn the basics!!!!!

The only "paper" you need on the dog to enter, is the AKC registration slip to get the info off of. It is not complicated to make an entry!!!!!

Depending on your age you should be taking Junior Showmanship classes and competing now.
In Juniors they judge you on the handler not the dog so you can use any dog.
When you get older you will have to have a dog to show and prove you are good at it and can show the dog to the best of it's ability. Then you will be able to have people pay you to show thier dogs.
It is a hard way to earn a living lots of travel and caring for many dog who will live with you while they have a show career and then will go back to the owner after they finish their championship to become breeders.

Try to find a local breeder who shows the type of dogs you are interested in. Volunteer to help them at their kennels and learn the business from the ground up. They can teach you all the basics and maybe take you to dog shows with them, if your parents agree. You might even be able to work out where they will give you a pup of your own in exchange for the work you do. You would have to work hard, but this would be the best way in my opinion to get started.

Well it depends on the type of showing if it is agility then just look at all the other shows that are on TV and learn what they do . and to enter you need every paper you can get about the dog.
