Always! In fact, my husband and I now wear helmets so the kids can see that we really do think it's important.

I have a 2 year old and we bought her a helmet for her trike. We bought some stickers and stuff that she could decorate it with so she WANTED to wear it. When I was little, my brother was riding a bike down a big hill and he wiped out bad. He fell right on his head and the helmet BROKE in half. Ever since then, I have planned on making my kids wear helmets. No matter how dorky they looked and how much they yelled at me. I felt like such a nerd wearing my helmet but after what happened to my brother, more kids in the neighbor hood rode out of the garage with a new helmet on.

Oh yeah! He's been wearing a bicycle helmet even when he rode a tricycle. When he was in daycare I brought it to the daycare. There is minimal risk of getting hurt on a tricycle, but I wanted to get him into the habit at an early age. I work with adults with traumatic head injuries. I know an adult who was hurt as a child because he didn't wear a helmet. Soon it will be law for children to wear helmets here in Canada.
I even tell children who I see in the street to ask their mommy or daddy to get them helmets. My son also started telling children in our neighbourhood when he was only 3 years old to wear helmets.

No way.
I feel if your gonna make them were a helmet to ride a bike then you should make them wear it all the time when playing(swing sets, running, all sports that currently don't require helmets, etc)

NO, I could never ask my kids to do something that I never did. I made it all these years without wearing a helmet. That is the problem with kids now a days, no one lets them be kids anymore, falling off bikes is part of growing up.

No, not for all time. For me, this is totally circumstantial. we stay in a 5ish acre subdivision (6 homes and a couple of empty a lot) with a gravel "highway" and "lane". (they're fairly short, in ordinary words about a block each.) A helmet for using around the following seems fairly overkill, except the youngsters commence installation ramps and jumps and all of that exciting stuff. a similar is going for the paved direction around the fringe of the parks and down the sidewalks through Grandma's living house. I figure that if he's using not a lot swifter than strolling %, faraway from motorized vehicle site visitors, there is purely not a lot reason to justify "placed on a helmet." less than different circumstances, even with the undeniable fact that, i am going to implement helmet wearing till he's previous sufficient to guage the circumstances himself and choose.

my son isn't old enough to ride a bike yet, but when he is old enough, i don't plan on making him wear a helmet. bike helmets weren't even invented when i was a kid and i'm still alive. my parents taught me "the rules" of riding a bike and i plan on doing the same thing.

YES. It is totally irresponsible to let a child ride a bike without one! There are so many kids that are killed or permanantly brain damaged because they did not have one on and they either got hit by a car or they fell and hit their head in the wrong spot. If they refuse to wear one lock the bike up!

children are so fragile, there bones and brain is still growing...children in the younger years dont think of what could happen so as a parent it is up to you to protect them in everyway.so YES i make my daugther wear a helmet...any smart parent who cares would.i know of a woman who has many kids and her 6 yr old son was on a bike accident and she let him go with out a helmet, well he crashed his bike into a pole and he hit so hard that now he is in a coma, his brain swelled up so bad that they had to remove part of it and no one knows for sure if and when he will pull out of it.so do the smart thing and protect your child whether they like it or not....explain to them why and in time they will come to terms with it.
