Won't you feel foolish for wasting your whole life praying to whatever ridiculous God you believe in, if someday it is proven there is no "higher power". But then of course, you would not believe anything that goes against your beliefs, would ya? I could certainly be wrong, and I am willing to admit that, but I sure feel my way of thinking is a lot more sane, than devoting my whole life to a carpenter that lived thousands of years ago, (who was so beloved by the people of his time they nailed him to a cross), or a multi armed elephant woman, etc. Religion is for people so weak minded, they can't accept they are alone on this earth, and have to rely on a "higher power" to make their decisions for them/blame their short-comings on. I feel sorry for you all.

The question of God is a little more complicated than you think. I am going to assume that when you write "God" you are writing about the Christian God (reference to the carpenter being crucified).
Several years ago Encyclopedia Britannica published fifty five volume series entitled The Great Books of the Western World. The co-editor of the series was a noted philosopher and legal scholar named Mortimer Alder. He marshaled the eminent thinkers and their writings which portrayed the most important ideas that have been studied and investigated over the centuries. These essays are assembled for comparison and contrast. Interestingly enough throughout the whole series the longest essay was on God. When Mr. Alder was asked why this theme merited such a protracted coverage, his answer was uncompromising, “Because, more consequences for life and action follow from the affirmation or denial of God than any other basic question.”
The issue of God’s existence has been dissected and placed back together by intellectual giants on both sides of the fence. Brilliant minds such as Bertrand Russell and David Hume have severely criticized the intellectual credibility of theism. However other great philosophical and scientific thinkers, such as Jonathan Edwards and Blaise Pascal, have strongly held to the theistic worldview. This is why I would never say that either side is for the weak minded.
Stephen Hawking, a man who holds Newton’s chair as Lucasian professor of Mathmatics at Cambridge University, humbly laid out his view of the universe with a brief assertation: “The one question in need of an answer is the question of God. Science, with all its strident gains, must still remain contented to describe the “what” of human observations. Only God can answer the “why”.”
I have thought about death and the truth it can bring to the surface in terms of the existence of God. If I believe in God and he does not exist than I will have the same end as any other human; my body will become nutrients for the plants around my grave. However, if God does exist and his claims in the Bible are true, than I will have a different yet fantastic end than most; all those who did not follow in the first place will come to a blatant realization. That realization will not have a second chance, and will end in some grueling consequences.
I find that there are very intelligent arguments on both sides. However, since both sides can not prove God’s existence undeniably, I will take the better of the two sides. As the British nineteenth-century poet Lord Tennyson stated in his poem The Ancient Sage:

For nothing worthy proving can be proven,
Nor yet disproven; wherefore thou be wise,
Cleave ever to the sunnier side of doubt.

I can't speak for other religions but mainstream Christianity does not require anything that I would ever equate to "wasting your whole life". Could I be wrong about God? Of course, but so could you. If I am wrong what has that cost me? Even here on Earth it has not cost me anything. You act like we have to shun everything in order to be Christians but we don't. The fact is that you too could be a Christian simply by asking for forgiveness. What does that cost you? Nothing here on Earth but the price will be paid in the eternity. The only price I can think of that Christians pay here on Earth is persecution from religophobes like you.

Well I just hope you have a good life here on this h ellish planet, cause I guess it will be your heaven.
The reason we continue to believe is that we have FAITH.
HOPE is also in our LIMITED CAPACITY.
I Believe that that JESUS is THE MESSIAH.
I believe that HE FREELY gave up His life for every soul, that we all may have eternal life in PARADISE.
I can see SCIENCE has proven the existence of many cities which were in the BIBLE, the WALL OF JERICHO, which fell straight down.
Ah man I am just wasting my time.
I know for sure that there is much, much more than this shi t hole we call life.
I am certain that JESUS is alive and He will come back and restore this planet to PARADISE.
I see more than 1,000 prophesies which have come true.
I see that there are only a few more to come.
And they include the worst stuff you can imagine.
It will be GODS final wrath on this planet, and it is your choice not to believe it.
No one is gonna make you change.
That is between you and GOD.

Hello,I am a Christian.
By the definition of what that is you can discover that I in fact believe that there is one true God and that he sent His son to die and forgive me of all my sins...as well as all the sins of the world.

There is a popular quote......I forget who said it.....and I only remember vaguely how it goes....but....

Christians are either right and are going to heaven, or we are the biggest fools to have ever lived.

The reason I believe what I do is because of several things.
1. Man naturally looks to a higher being.
2. Having a Creator means I have a purpose and I am not an accident of unexplainable origins.
3. Is it not easier to live with a belief that you have a purpose and are not just here becuz of an accident?

And as for that saying up there......I would rather be a fool and die for something I believe in, with the belief that I am here for a reason. Than to die without ever having had hope that I had a purpose to fill and without ever having believed in something.

Mother Thereas of Calcutta (you know, the person who lifted tens of thousands of the poor that probably you and I would feel most uncomfortable even seeing on the television) demanded of her followers that they spend three hours in prayer everyday, otherwise they wouldn't be able to see the sense in what they were doing after a short while.

Think she felt foolish? If that's what being a fool means, I can only hope to attain a fraction of the love that she had for the least of our brothers and sisters, in the name of God.

wow! thanks for your opinion.

Have you watched the movie "Contact" with Jodie Foster? There is a comment on there about the percentage of atheists vs. religion and it was sad to her pompous attitude of funny that she could think that 95% of the worlds population is under an illusion that God exists....mmm I think that it would be the measly 5% of the population that doesn't believe that were under the illusion,...........

Probably the reason you can't for some unknown reason why you want to disprove God is that the believers of God actually have a relationship with him and how can you disprove an actual active relationship just because you can't see it with your eyes or feel it with your hands? Dude take the lid off the box and pull your head out to see what is really out there! why be so scared of what you can't see? I would think that it would be us that believe who are the brave ones to stand up for such a cause.

Um, no. Asking me to accept the possibility of no God is like asking a man with solar power panels to assume there is no sun. It just makes no sense when all the evidence points otherwise.

I see His fingerprints on your DNA, in the way your eyes work, in the very idea of right and wrong. All creation shouts that there is an intelligent Designer. I cannot plug my ears and pretend I don't hear it.

Personally, I think your way of thinking leads to despair, and if enough people believe in it, anarchy.

of course not. there is far too much proof of the existence of God.

and as for wasting my life being as good as i can, how is that a waste? i do good for others and for myself when it does not conflict with the teachings of the bible.

it is possible that the great pumpkin is the divine spirit, but not likely as there is no historical or archeological proof of it's existence.

this weak mind does ask for guidence from God, however all of the decisions i make are my own. and yes, when i have made the wrong decision, i have asked God why he did not clear my eyes before i did whatever. but the end result is, it was my doing, not His.

as for feeling sorry for me, dont. i made an informed decision and will stick with it for as long as science can support my reasons.

once you prove that Jesus, Mohommed, Moses, Abraham, King David, King Saul, King Solomon, John the Baptist, Pharoh and the rest did not ever exist, then i will consider your message.

oh, and lest we forget, the ceasars of the bible as well. the roman and greek historical documents support the truth of the life of Jesus and others in history as well.

so there! n'yah, n'yah, n'yah!

Well, until I die and nothing....I mean, NOTHING happens then I will still believe in God. I am a strong minded individual and not weak. I am comforted by the fact that there is a God. I would rather believe and be granted eternity with my creator than to not believe and well....have to come back here all over again so I can learn my lesson. Peace!

Praying to God is not a waste of time. No, I will not feel foolish if there is no God... I lived a better life believing that there was a God.. you on the other hand my friend will feel mighty foolish if there is a God and you were foolish enough to shake your little fist and say there is no God.

Make no mistake about it my friend, you serve someone. He is a higher power than you but not higher than God.

God doesn't make decisons for me I make them for myself. Just like you made your decision not to beleive in him. I make my decision to.

One day, every knee shall bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus (that carpenter, that died so that you could make the decision to serve him or not) Christ is Lord. See you there.
