Our belief fixation systems evolved to keep us alive long enough to reproduce, not to give us true beliefs.
That means that they're designed to make us overcautious in quite a few situations, undercautious in others, to have certain systematic belief biases (for example in overattributing intention to others' actions, and in overattributing those actions to persistent personality rather than transient situations).
All of those irrationalities serve to generally make us more likely to survive until we've successfully mated and reared offspring. Then on top of that, there are all of the huge irrationalities that make us WANT to mate and rear offspring.
If we were perfectly rational, the race would have been extinct for eons.

Human soul is a secret.
We are rational and we are also irrational.
We are rude and we are also gentle.
We are intelligent and we are also dumb...
Usually we don't know exactly how we are, we just assume that we are better than all or than most of other people! And we keep on proudly conducting a life full of unexpected sufferings.
Baha'u'llah says:
"Consider again the sun when it is completely hidden behind the clouds. Though the earth is still illumined with its light, yet the measure of light which it receiveth is considerably reduced. Not until the clouds have dispersed, can the sun shine again in the plenitude of its glory. Neither the presence of the cloud nor its absence can, in any way, affect the inherent splendor of the sun. The soul of man is the sun by which his body is illumined, and from which it draweth its sustenance, and should be so regarded.
(Baha'u'llah, Gleanings from the Writings of Baha'u'llah, p. 154)

Rationality is a conditioned response to the world. To be rational requires training, observation and, above all, patience.
Nobody is born rational; the ability to think must be learned. And all too frequently, there's nobody around to provide that learning; only Mum, Dad and the local priesthoods, all of whom have their own agendas.
Peer pressure and the Textbook of the Schoolyard also play their part in screwing up the minds of children.

Something to do with brain cells.
I think humans are really hard on themselves and each other.
I find they have no common sense.
