I have ran out of answers but I was watching this question be asked to a Catholic priest and he answered to something of this extent: Babies are born with the Original Sin. So we baptize them as babies to remove that trace of Original Sin.

You said that Jesus said they were innocent, but you have taken that out of context. They are innocent in the sense that hey have a sense of innocence and they beleive more than adults. I hope that that has clarified some things and if you have any questions, let me know. God Bless.

Infants are innocent before God. There is no such thing as original sin. It is an old and false tradition to ascribe sin to an infant. Baptism is for remission of sin and children have no sin. There is no need for infant baptism and is a mockery of the principle to say that they do. Christ's atonement is sufficient for all that die without sin, including infants, little children before they reach accountability and mentally incapable persons that have no understanding of right or wrong. Please read Moroni Chapter 8 in the Book of Mormon.

Psa 51:5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.
We are Born with a sin nature inherited from Adam.Baptizing Can Not
take it away. When the child gets to the age of accountability they can
choose their self to receive Jesus as Lord and God will give them a New Birth spiritually that can give them victory over self and sin. The children
UNDER the age of ACCOUNTABILITY are under Gods Grace and if they die go straight to heaven. The verse below will explain about inherited
sin nature.Rom 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
That is why Jesus came to give man a free gift of salvation through
his shed Blood and Bodily Resurrection from the dead.

Dear Fashionvista,

while it is true that babies are born with Original Sin- baptism does nothing in terms of removing sin. It is faith in Christ that allows Christ's righteousness to be our righteouesness. Christ was made unrighteousness (he paid the price for our sins on the cross) to pay for our unrighteouesness.

The purpose of Baptism is to identify with Christ and to make a public declaration that just as Christ died and was raised again, you've died to your sins and want to live a new life to please God. So while i know that Catholics practice infant baptism- it is not a biblical practice. In the OT people did make sacrifices for sin - when a baby was born.

Jesus was most certainly not baptized because he had Original Sin- remember this is the signifgance of the Virgin Birth. He was baptized to show us an example of obedience to the Father. God has commanded believers to be baptized to show their identification with him in life and death. But most certainly not as a way to remove sin. The only answer for sin- is to put one's faith in Jesus.

Hope that helps,

Nickster

I was baptised as a child and I do not see anything wrong with it, however, I do believe that if a person is to be baptised into a church or religion he/she should be knowledgeable of what he/she is doing. I believe in re-baptism. That way you are consciously making the decision to take God into you life.

I said something to that effect when I answered the question. You're right. There is a lot of misunderstandings that take place between religions.

That is catholic theology, not Bible theology. The Bible makes no mention of babies being baptized. It really isn't the catholics that decide how we deal with original sin, it is God, and He explains it in His Word the Bible.
