I'm watching the Passion of Christ, and I do not see Jews in the mob. I see Christians. The ones we see so many of in this forum.
And I'm wondering: Is this what they need? To crucify an innocent, a helpless victim to satisfy their need for a scapegoat, someone to bear their sins for them? Will they not be satisfied till they've thrown people to the lions? Will they learn nothing till enough blood has been spilled, enough pain wreaked upon innocents that they finally satiate their lust for hatred?
Have they fallen so far as to need this?
And which of us will offer ourselves to their hatred, to teach them to love?
Is that what I'm doing in my small, pathetic way?
I've no answers, just questions. But in 2000 years I see no difference between a howling mob then and a howling mob now.

Jesus didn't change human nature. He just gave them something new to fight over. And they will always find something to fight over. For the ignorant have nothing but their hatred of those who have more, whether it be material wealth, or spiritual wealth.
What can I do against fear, but love?

My friend, my faith in the Christian faith was completely shattered today by one question.
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/?qid=20060828114935AA6hRsl&r=w&pa=FZptHWf.BGRX3OFMhDJSWf_WHaQxUJSpK_3Uh0dwb_6fNBv7TXzS2FgW7bVWzGQW1WDLmNU85eCaMDsi.A--#Q8UuCGfvBzUeyF2Rb.pUQa8iHcLoATGD2cQxjqjYYHza_f1VZkm9
The answers I saw astounded me. They're willing to sacrifice themselves, as well as others. This scares me.
As for the second part of your question, human nature is to argue over what isn't known, whether it be what is the right religion, if ghosts are real, or if Republicans or Democrats run the country better. Opinions differ. Ideas differ. It's just human nature, which is sad, because so much can be done with cooperation instead of criticism. This is why I hate what organized religion has done. It has slowed down the progress of man, and what could have been created.
I said earlier that my faith in Christianity is shattered, and it is for the most part, there still are some Christians I am sure with rational thought, and I hope they will someday see there is a greater importance to life than to argue that their invisible man is better than someone elses.
There is a difference between the 2 howling mobs. 2000 years of growth. It might not seem that way, but more and more evidence is mounting up against religious beliefs the more that science progresses. People are starting to put 2+2 together, which I'm sure never happened 2000 years ago.
I feel like I didn't answer your question at all in my statement, and my apologies if I didn't. Also I'm sorry it took me so long to answer.
Love is a very powerful weapon. Best used with care.

I'm sure that there are those Christians who are very opinionated, but think about it, everyone has an opinion! Politics, child rearing, marriage, health problems. Everyone is different, so everyone has a different idea. Even you! Is it right to classify everyone that doesn't feel the same way you do about an issue "wrong". The only one perfect here is God. It's not your decision to judge who's right and who's wrong. Just listen and if they ask, give them your thoughts. Be a little more open minded and know that sometimes others might be right. Look at Columbus. No one believed that the world was round. If you're a true Christian, you shouldn't be judging anyone.

People throw the word Christian around like its a person. Is a description of those who choose to follow Christ. Christ basically said that when he was we would will be in the dark. Boy are we. This world shows it too! When a woman like Mother Teresa is called by so many as deceived , man are we in the dark. The same can be said about Martin Luther, Martin Luther King or Mahatma Gandhi for that matter. People are all passing judgement. Think Christ would have approved going to war? So many of the religious rush to war. The key words here being in the dark, and deceived. Christ took the cross which made a pretty good statment against war. Christ took the Cross rather than condem us all or call down destruction on his persecuters. Christ lived true Love.
I think the Beatles said it right, All you need is Love, Love is all you need. If you live that you tend to find God, with Jesus. Don't know what to do with all this religion. "Judge not less ye be judged." Deep , don't think many know how deep.

Unfortunately I think eradicating religion altogether is the only solution. All the time people are prepared to believe in things without valid argument or evidence, it's going to be very difficult to change them. How can you have a rational discussion with someone who thinks that they have an omnipotent creator on their side? How can you combat bigotry and conflict and hatred which is founded on the idea that all these things are ordained by a deity? It's hard to reason people out of beliefs that they didn't arrive at by reason, but it can be done, and it *must* be done, if we're ever to have a better and more peaceful world.

Oh you know that if Jesus does ever walk this earth again...the "Christians" will pounce on him...again. They've missed the whole point of the Jesus story and have turned it into some kind of fanatical cult. You see it's all about power and control and if Jesus were here power and control would probably not be his agenda. And can you see all of the powerful, political and religious leaders just turn ALL of their power over to Jesus...they claim they will, but talk is cheap and they love being in control. I can see the headlines now - "Man claiming to be Jesus arrested for not complying - again."

I admire your courage and suggest that if you are able, you should stay the course. This is a powerful love that seeks to set right yet another era of human misconception, through you and others like you. If you feel persecuted, you are in excellent company...you do not suffer alone. I don't know if this helps but my faith tells me that love does win in the end. "Perfect love casts out all fear" (and the source of hatred is fear) .
Peace friend.

Jesus died for us because he loved us so much. We can only come as we are because that is who we are. God knew that Judas was going to betray Jesus and that Satan had a plan to kill him, but what he didn't know is that, that was God's plan too. Jesus is the ultimate sacrifice for our sins(things that are harmful to others not masturbation or not goin to church), and has fulfilled the law. So the things we did in the past and the things that we will do, Jesus has us covered. So the thought that you ponder on of an innocent, helpless victim.....hence Jesus...He wanted to do that for us, so that we can be cleansed of our sin and join Him in heaven. So in that when the religious experts asked Jesus what the greatest command was? He said to Love God and love others as yourself. Not "go to church, read the bible everyday, you must tithe, or no sex before marriage or whatever the church laws made up." Well you wouldn't do anything to harm others if you truly did right? yes. God knew all this but sadly only few get it. I attached a link for you to read a lil more into what I am talkin about if you're interested.

Constantine said in his memoirs that his greatest regret was making Christianity the official religion of the empire. He said that they had more bloodlust than any group he had ever seen. What we do here on Q&A is just what you are saying, trying to teach in our own pathetic way. What we need is something to rally around, it is the one thing we lack, and they possess. I, like you have no interest in violent solutions, as they tend to amplify our problems rather than solve them. Good Question.
