Intelligent question great stuff...

I believe the the definitionfor religion however is something similar to this..
Religion is a system of social coherence based on a common group of beliefs or attitudes concerning an object, person, unseen or imaginary being, or system of thought considered to be supernatural, sacred, divine or highest truth, and the moral codes, practices, values, institutions, and rituals associated with such belief or system of thought. It is sometimes used interchangeably with "faith" or "belief system"[1], but is more socially defined than that of personal convictions.

I do not think, and I am sure I would have heard about it from somewhere , that the clergy like the rest of the population are not allowed or excused for that matter, from any activity such as molesting kids.... at least as far as I know there is no "excuse" for such an awful crime, however I do not have any personal experience with this tragic crime, is there an experience that you have had with the clergy that makes it seem that way for you?

Eitherway seems a bit of a funny thing to joke about to me...
but hey you probably may not agree with me , but thats the point -it really does not really matter right?
You asked and I am answering......
Its great this Yahoo Answers thing, it really is.

So just to recap, Religion as an excuse for child abuse?

I must disagree in your view that it seems that way, whilst the crime may occur, I do not believe that religion is an excuse... or anything else for that matter...

And I point you once again to the wikipedia reference..

Hope that has helped to clear that confusion up...

Keep the "great" questions coming, as they are such such fun to answer, and earn me a few more extra points as well..

Oh and one last question are you a member of the clergy by chance, is it Rev Mean Gene?

Perverted child molesters don't need an excuse. Perverts are perverts no matter what they may claim to be. More attention is put on supposed clergy when they are found to be a pervert.

It doesn't mean there are more of them it just means that when a person claims to be one thing and it is found out they are not what they claim, that it is more newsworthy.

It is never mentioned that pervert so and so was an atheist or a non-religious person.

Not having a religion is also not an excuse to molest kids

Clergy molest less children then do other sects but they get the most attention,I do not agree with Clergy for not only molesting anybody and abuseing members of there congrgations and I get extremely angery with clergy that have membership that try to cover this type of behavior.

life : an excuse for molesting kids

Molesters are molesters....period. Religion has not given them an excuse...they have given themselves one, which is what all of them do.
"My religion deprives me...."
"My home life sucked...."
"She/he asked for it...."

They are all sick in the head....it has nothing to do with religion.

That's an oversimplification.

There are many reasons for religion, but believing in something higher is no longer one of them.

If you believe the only way you're to be saved is through someone else, and not on your own, wouldn't you be scared into giving them all your money, faith, devotion, virginity?

:)

oh please give me a break!! I'm a preacher's kid and have two ministers in my family. They are outraged at people who would molest children.

The vast majority of christians are definitely opposed to sex outside of marriage and they would also include in that molestation. And molestation would be even worse in their eyes because it is the rape of a child.

So, please don't judge Christians by the evils of a few sick men.
