Jim Jones did was most "preachers" do. They sell the idea of hell and damnation. He becomes their god and gains their power and trust. This ideology is only capable of being sold to weak, feeble minded people who have not idea of their own spirituality. Think about it, he told them to drink poison and they obliged.

That is one of the earmarks of a cult...a very charismatic leader. People were attracted to him because he was very appealing in what he said. I was in my 20's at the time, and I remember the horror of the Jonestown suicides. Those poor people. I can only imagine (and shudder) to think how Jim Jones will be judged before God, with all those lives on his hands.

Jim Jones was a very charismatic individual. He could talk people into anything. He and Charles Manson were alike in this.
