With all of the new personality controlling drugs out there, I've seen many people change dramatically once they got on medication. But my problem is that God didn't create them that way. If God wanted them to be on Drugs he would have made them that way. Are we playing God by taking prescription drugs?

Deep question. What about Diabetics? Did God make them to be Diabetics, or is it just a health problem? Babies born with cleft palates, are they designed that way, or was it a mistake in the development of the newborn? Heart attacks are brought on by a combination of things, genetics, diet, stress, elevated blood pressure, etc. Now, on that basis, ask your same question. What if the new personality drugs actually CORRECT an imbalance of chemicals and hormones in the brain, just as insulin corrects a deficit of Insulin from the Liver? Can it be misused and misprescribed? Sure. But for the most part, it is to correct some imbalance. Best question is who is the REAL person, the one BEFORE the meds or the one AFTER the meds?

many factors determine our final personality traits.
1. upbringing(if any)
2. enviroment
3. talents - like music, mechanical etc
5. observations of life
We do control a lot of our own personalities by gleaning the best or what we like from observations of others and then merging them with our own.
God designs us in a basic way and sets out a whole life long plan to make us into the person he wants. The problem is is that so does the satan. Its the conflict and how we respond to everything that ends up defining us. Addictions are not personality traits... although they can become those...i.e. an enabler. Drugs are an attempt of escape from reality not learning to deal with it so therefore it actually compounds the effects of events by delaying then addings its own costs.

God didn't intend for people to overdose themselves with drugs to become a different person, but He did give humans the ability to make medicines to help those who had severe diseases. If a person gets addicted (or tries) to drugs, I don't believe it's God's fault.

No we are not playing God!!.
the first Dr we need to go to, is Jesus we need to ask him for
forgiveness of our sins and ask him to heal us.
there is no sin by taking medications.(God created the plants and from the plant Dr get the medicine.) so go ahead take your medication if you need to take it.
