It seems todays christian believes that you only need to awknoledge Christ as your saviour, and you are saved. They disredard everything said in the bible about punishment.
I am christian and I get insulted when someone says they are a christian, but don't think they need to pray, and that sex before merraige is okay, and that the bible is just old so we don't need to listen to it. Some christians are okay, but after being chathilic, and not caring myself, because no one else did...
My question basically is, why, if you are christian, do you take the commandments so lightly?

Tho "two whitnesses" are that of Christ, and we have them. The Book of Mormon and the Bible... but everyone is given the commandments, and "Christians in todays society ignore them.

I'm LDS, too. I admit to forgetting to pray in the morning, so it's usually in the car on the way to work. I know we could all be doing more to help those around us as well. Sometimes it's a matter of setting goals or becoming more informed. I think it's easy for Satan to lull everyone into a false sense of carnal security - that because we are doing well economically, that it is all due to our own efforts. It's important to remember we have to rely on God and on spiritual means of support. However, remember true religion is to be kind to those around us, and it's better to keep being a good example of what you know to be true, then stay involved in service. Have a happy day.

The world is an imperfect place... and this too applies to Christians. I think there is this misconception that just because someone is a Christian they are "perfect" and infallible. This is of course not the case. There are also many different levels of Christians... you know the Easter and Christmas types that show up out of some sort of moral obligation and then there are those who give it much higher importance in their day to day lives. The "cafeteria Christians" are those who pick and choose the bits that work for them rather than accepting it as a whole. Christianity is not a self-centered religion and I suspect a lot of people miss that fact.

i wonder the same thing.
i don't like calling myself a christian because so many Christians are worse
than any other religious followers.
not all of them, there are actually some very sweet loving and kind people I've met that
are christian. usually older than forty though. the older generation, that actually know how to love.
and understand what Jesus was trying to actually teach.
what you may be stressing about though isn't as important among the other things though, like serving others and doing good things for people, putting people first above yourself. humbling yourself as a servant.
having sex before marriage happens. God isn't going to get mad at you for that, yeah He does suggest not to, but do you know why? So that you're feelings or the other person's feelings don't get hurt if you/they don't seem to stay around all that much, because He knows we would do something like that, since we don't really have any awareness of the people around us or nor seem to care about other's feelings as much as our own, which is obviously not a good thing and is the reason why our feelings get hurt so often.
you dont have to pray all the time. its not supposed to be a tradition where you need to pray this many times or this long, or else you're taking the purpose of it away. you'll know when to pray and what to pray for. you'll know when to thank God, or ask things from Him, or ask for forgiveness.

Jesus said to the religious experts that the greatest commandment is to Love God and love others as yourself. What does that mean? Well don't do anything to harm others hence cheating, lying, molestation, murder, stealing ya know things that are hurtful to others. Well when you truly love God and others you... wouldn't do those things right? Yea you might say. Well that is our requirment and Jesus said that.
Secondly, the law is a whole different animal and to try and shorten it so that its not overwhelming I feel this is important, God looks at our hearts not what we do or don't do because whatever we do isn't going to be good enough. What I mean by that is lets say for instance a pastor in the church is well liked, honorable, giving, gives great advice, and gets involved in the church for the people. Well at home he may be abusing his wife and neglecting the duty of a husband (loving and honoring his wife). Well the congregation doesn't know that he is doing that at home because he can hide it. Well not from God, and that is why he looks at the heart and not all the "good deeds" he did, its like the wolf in sheeps clothing, or two faced. i am not saying that good deeds don't get you anywhere, but what I am saying is that if two people want to have sex that is their choice and they are free to make that choice. God does not condone sex, he did not create us to be celebate. I know that is a lot to swallow but I was once in that mindframe. I attached a link so can explore at your pleasure.

This isn't a Christians only web site... so If your going to ask here, you'll have to put up with the rest of us.
I think a lot of Christians don't take the commandments seriously because they don't believe in their religion.
Matthew 19:17
If you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.

Does that include Jesus's commandment to have two or more witnesses' (Matt. 18:16). Because if applied, combined with 2 Tim. 3:16-17, probably more people would realize;
A. The scriptural 'old testament' is the law of Moses, not Genesis-Malachi
B That man is a false god. (Gen. 3)
C The beast in Rev. 17 is the USA.

I do not take anything God In Jesus' name says lightly.
I have to stand before the Lord Jesus when I die, and I am a sinner saved by grace, and I try with the help of the Holy Spirit, to live as he would have me live,+so I do take everything that God says in the bible very seriously, including no sex before marriage.
I am a born-again Christan, and you have to repent, and ask the Holy Spirit into your heart, so he can lead you to a path of righteous, and teach you how to read the bible, and get you into heaven.
I wait for the Lord Jesus to come back so no more animals are killed or tortured, and people killed, and abused, in God and Jesus' heaven, so will not exist.
I do not live my life on what other people do or think, I just avoid them, as the Bible says, "come out from among them, and touch not the unclean thing," 2 Corinthians 6.17.
Just keep your mind on Jesus, and let him lead you on who to talk with, and to keep friendship with, some people I continue talking with, even if they are not born-again, so they can see the life I am leading to inspire them to be born again.
Let God In Jesus name be your guide, and the Holy Spirit.
Bye, and God Bless.

Jesus tought Love and forgiveness. If you read the Bible carefully enough you will find multitudes of contradicting teachings, many of which originate from laws made from the men in power at the time. You will also find many teachings and orthodox practices that have been implimented as well as radified since the conception of the Christian church itself. When all is said and done, I believe all that WILL matter is Love and Forgiveness. Does not each commandment originate from a conceived thought from ONE of these concepts. In realizing that we are ALL ONE, we stand to change the world in all aspects of each commandment. Think about it, take each commandment one-by-one and break each concept down to either Love or Forgiveness. And to answer your question more specifically, Judgement itself is not the path to either concept... Judge-Not...

Very good point. It seems people have gotten very comfortable in this high tech, cushy society we live in. It's all designed to distract us from spiritual growth and values. As in Jesus' parable of the sower, each and every believer is like one type of seed. That sown by the wayside, on stony ground, or on good soil. I have a feeling that when Jesus gets back here, He's going to be rather upset. Not only with the unbelievers, but with His own people as well.

Hon, many ppl will call themselves Christians, but do not fallow him, because they do not love Him with all their heart.
They have received a watered down gospel which many in the pulpits will give an accountability to God one day for not leading the sheep in the correct way.
Do not get discouraged or angry at them, just make sure you stay on the right track yourself, and keep those logs out of your own eye. Pray for them, ....put on the fruits of the spirit in all you do.
So that some may come up to you and say..."what is that hope you have in you?"
