I don't have a big gut or anything, but I would be much more comfortable at around 225. I have been told time and again that I look good at this size but I don't feel good...Is it better for me to stop lifting and go straight cardio for a while? or shoud I keep doing both concurrently? I am pretty muscular, but I could lose some fat too...I understand that muscle is more dense and weighs more than fat, but I just want to be smaller, lighter...I don't like this bodyguard body I have developed over the past 3 years as a result of weights+beef and NO cardio....I just want to slim down..I could even stand to lose a little muscle mass, in spite of it being a "metabolism booster" Anybody with a game plan? Diet tips too...Thanks

I know what you mean about others saying I look great but I don't feel comfortable with my weight. Cardio is definitely the way to go not only to decrease your bulk but to help you heart. Running is great but has the reputation of too much wear and tear on the joints. Swimming, bicycling, or even fast walking could be what you need. Now we all know the Atkins diet can get weight off in a hurry, But it seems to go right back on when one stops. If you make conscious substitutions like 1% low fat milk instead of whole milk, fruit instead of candy, things like that, I believe the weight loss is slower but more permanent. Weigh yourself monthly because despite being on a reducing diet the scale will fluctuate on occasion which is just the body adjusting to the changes and people tend to get discouraged. Stay away from fast food, have salad dressings on the side and not dumped on your salad. Eat more whole grains and lean meats. Cheat once a week so that you don't feel deprived. I believe you will succeed. Good luck and use your good judgment with your diet.

Theres your answer, more cardio. Dont stop weightlifting, but maybe shorten your routine and add an areobic workout to your daily exercise. Im only 6' 0" and weighed 260 a few months ago and I am already down to 233 as of today and all i did was eat less breads and sugars and start an aerobic routine and walk or run more. I usually throw in a smartass comment along with my answer but I think I will pass on that with you. I plan to get to 200 even, 225-230 sounds great for your height.

Sounds like you may be heading in the right direction. Cardio in my opinion, should always be a part of every work out routine whether it is mixed in with lifting or just by itself. It is just good practice. Of course, if you do want to tone down, you will most likely also have to consume less calories and protein. Now, your food consumption really is dependant on a variety of factors such as your age and work out regimen. Although I am not a dietery manager, nor do I know how many calories you should consume, it is always good to balance your food groups. As you mention that you want to tone down and that you could loose a few pounds you would probably not eat as much protein. I always consume tons of fruits and vegetables. The best way to eat my fruits many times is blended with orange juice. It is easier to put down. Best wishes to your new regimen.

Try lots of cardio that involves the whole body like elipticals plus cutting your fat and calories. It takes reading labels at the store and measuring your portions. That should lean you down.
