the first time I saw 'some' we were in San Francisco, on Mission street (picked up my friennd for school), and a pickup truck stopped on the corner. Maybe 20 or so people just ran to the truck and jumped into the bed. I thought... what the f just happened? What are they doing to that poor guy in the truck? My friend had to explain it to me. Before that, I just thought it was a bunch of people hanging out.

I used to work for day labor years ago.The people who work such jobs for the most part are some of the nicest helpful friendliest people you could meet.Being a former day laborer I can't remember the first time I saw one.

The first time I saw them were out in California. There were 60 maybe more of them standing around wanting to unload trucks at Safeways Grocery Warehouse. I had on a load of meat that would cost about 200.00 to get unloaded anyplace in the country for 1 guy to do it. This guy came up to me and told me that 3 of them would do it for 150.00 and would have it done in 2 hours. In all of my years of hauling meat had never seen 48,000 pounds of boxed meat picked up off of the floor, put onto pallets, checked in and the bills signed in 2 hours. So I told them to go for it, figuring I would get a good 5 or 6 hour nap out of the deal.

Wow, was I wrong. Not only did these 3 guys have the trailer unloaded, the meat checked in and the paperwork signed, they also had the floor cleaned and ready for the produce I was picking up, they had my pallets stacked in the front of the trailer and the load locks holding them in place. It took them less than 2 hours to do it.

They were not making money at greed prices they were making money in volume.

I kicked them 300.00, nothing out of my pocket the broker pays for unloading anyway.

I left there thinking that sure some of them may be a HUGE drain on our society, but the ones that work, can work circles around anyone at anytime.

I was laboring myself at a hard job and wondered if I could hire them to do my job, pay them a little less, and make a profit, but I saw that it wouldn't work as my boss would just fire me and hire them

Yes, I can. My thoughts were that this person has to put up with a lot in order to earn the pittance that he was being paid.

I don't blame people for coming here, since WE lay out the welcome mat for them and give them every incentive to come.

We need to enforce our laws!
