No. That is a Western-Christian idea. The Jews have their own calendar. The Islamic calendar puts year one at the time that Muhammad moved from Mecca to Medina. The Chinese have another calendar entirely. People in other countries who do business with Americans or Western Europeans acquaint themselves with our calendar to be polite and thorough, but we don't return their thoughtfulness.

so there is the bc bce thing that people have already mentioned. and there are many people who live off calendars that don't go according to jesus. Religious Jews for example use the Jewish calendar which starts about 5000 years ago, when god first gave life to man. But still, for practical purposes, to be on the same page as much of the rest of the world, the Christian calendar is still known and used some.

I'd say that the majority of cultures do. The only time it's an exception is when you see B.C.E.(before common era). And then there's C.E.(common era). It's rare to see that and when you do it's usually from people who are more into science than religion.
The Chinese culture, along with the Jewish religion, have their own set calendar and months.

In the Western world, a lot do. Other cultures, and certain people (myself included) use CE, and BCE. BCE, "before the common era," refers to BC time; CE, "common era," stands in for AD.

There are those, who do not recognize Jesus as the central figure for dating do the following:
B.C.E. (Before Common Era) for B.C.
C.E. (Common Era) for A.D.
I am not familiar with other forms of dating. I know the nations in the Far East use other dating measures.

They don't. Science uses C.E or Common Era instead of AD anymore.

It is easier to follow this calendar as it is in worldwide use. However. there are so many calendars----so many different religions have their own way of counting the years. I use the Jewish calendar for religious purposes.
