this is one of teh best month during Islamic year. this is the month when Allah (SWT) gives us(muslims) an opportunity to ask for forgiveness for our sins. He provides us with a chance of living a completey pious life for one month.

when i was younger, my mom used to tell me that during this Holy month, Allah binds the satan from astraying muslism from the righteous path. in my home it has been a tradition that when Ramadan starts, no television, no movies, and no songs. and for one month we only pray and recite Quran. honestly, doing all that makes one feel closer to Allah ever than b4 and it is so placating.

not only that, since we eat b4 sunrise and than eat at sunset, it makes oen feel what poor go through; doing so makes us appreciate the blessinsg of Allah.

even though the whole month of Ramadan is of blessing,"the last ten days of Ramadan are a time of special spiritual power as everyone tries to come closer to God through devotions and good deeds. The night on which the first verses of the Qur'an were revealed to the Prophet, known as the Night of Power (Lailat ul-Qadr), is generally taken to be the 27th night of the month. The Qur'an states that this night is better than a thousand months. Therefore many Muslims spend the entire night in prayer.

During the month, Muslims try to read as much of the Qur'an as they can. Most try to read the whole book at least once. Some spend part of their day listening to the recitation of the Qur'an in a mosque."

MAY ALLAH LET THE MONTH OF RAMADAN OF BLESSINGS AND JOY FOR EVERYONE THIS YEAR(AMEEN)!

I am mot Muslim, but I have respect for the sacrifices Muslims make as a testamamony of their faith. Eating, drinking and sexual intercourse are not allowed between dawn (fajr), and sunset (maghrib). During Ramadan, Muslims are also expected to put more effort into following the teachings of Islam by refraining from violence, anger, envy, greed, lust, angry and sarcastic retorts, and gossip. People are meant to try to get along with each other better than they normally might. All obscene and irreligious sights and sounds are to be avoided. Purity of both thought and action is important. The fast is an exacting act of deep personal worship in which Muslims seek a raised level of closeness to God. The act of fasting is said to redirect the heart away from worldly activities, its purpose being to cleanse the inner soul and free it from harm.

Not all of us would or could do that

In Ramadan, we Muslims don’t only abstain form food, drink, smoking, marital sex, but also we abstain form all kinds of immoral acts and obscenity. Our social, religious, charitable acts are combined in our fasting. So, the month of Ramadan is an intensive course in physical and spiritual hygiene.

We fast also to honor the Revelation of the Qur’an in this blessed month. The Qur’an is our guide and rule to advance in this world and to draw ourselves closer to Allah.

During the blessed month of Ramadan, millions of Muslims gather in Mosques during the daytime for reciting and reflecting on the Qur’an. During the night, they gather to pray in congregation and listen to lectures from Muslim scholars. All these merits help us to be more adaptable, sociable, and practical.

Non- Muslim this 4U to understand why muslims fast in Ramadan..

Muslims are called upon to use this month to re-evaluate their lives in light of Islamic guidance. We are to make peace with those who have wronged us, strengthen ties with family and friends, do away with bad habits -- essentially to clean up our lives, our thoughts, and our feelings. The Arabic word for "fasting" (sawm)literally means "to refrain" - and it means not only refraining from food and drink, but from evil actions, thoughts, and words.

During Ramadan, every part of the body must be restrained.
The tongue must be restrained from backbiting and gossip. The eyes must restrain themselves from looking at unlawful things. The hand must not touch or take anything that does not belong to it. The ears must refrain from listening to idle talk or obscene words. The feet must refrain from going to sinful places. In such a way, every part of the body observes the fast.

Therefore, fasting is not merely physical, but is rather the total commitment of the person's body and soul to the spirit of the fast. Ramadan is a time to practice self-restraint; a time to cleanse the body and soul from impurities and re-focus one's self on the worship of God.

A day will come soon or later... Allah will ask you too about Ramadan.... then what will you say ??

i think its the best
we learn to be a lot closer to Allah(swt)
we appreciate food and drink
we learn more abt our religion
muslims in this month at least stop lying, cheating and all other bad deeds and perform only gud deeds
we get a lot of satisfaction for going from dawn till dusk without any food and realise the needs of the poor.
we learn to be more patient and tolerant
the atmosphere is totally peaceful(or at least here in the uae whr i am, it is)
and in the end thr's the reward of eid
