You get to have lots of people who think you are close to God, so follow you, giving your ego a serious boost; you get to live off their wages and not pay any rent, as your congregation does all that for you too; you get to be "special friends" with choirboys and you can say pretty much whatever you want and your congregation will happily and blindly believe it(you may get the odd free-thinker in there, but all you have to do is say they are "posessed by the devil)! It's actually quite a very powerful position to hold, considering!
Do you need any more reasons to join up!!?

Sadly to say, it seems that being a priest, vicar, pastor etc., is a good way to become a child sex abuser. Just read or listen to the vile filth in the media that these evil people get upto nowadays.
Nobody should forgive a vicar or priest if he sexually abused your young son or daughter.
We hear so much these days of religious leaders (vicars, priests etc) molesting children, especially innocent young boys, one wonders how much is still swept under the carpet to keep up the illusion “God is good” or “the Bible is the truth” or you name it.
The truth is, there are far too many child abusers in privileged religious positions, whether it’s sexual or physical abuse. The percentage of religious abusers is just way higher than the normal per capita ratio.

Despite the fact that your post is drenched in sarcasm, I will answer your question. The reason a man chooses to become a priest, is the same reason I am choosing to become a nun. It is love for God's Church and God's people. It is a calling, a deep desire in the heart of the man to serve God's people.

Without a priest, there would be no Holy Eucharist, and I don't know what I'd do without it. Also, without a priest, there would be no one to hear my confessions, which I also cannot do without. Yes, my priests are very important to me.
God bless.

Job Security. When was the last time you heard of a priest being fired for not meeting "performance expectations?" :o)

- spreading encense fumes at the nose of dozens of people then watch them getting nauseous;
- spreading holy water onto people, insisting of the fidels the priest likes less;
- making noise in the microphone, echos;
- singing like a cow - on purpose;
- pointing out the sinners in the audience and ask them to speak about their sins out loud;
- and so on.

It's a power trip. You get to condemn people for their mistakes and preach to them. You can listen to all of their secrets and advise them to pray to get rid of their sins. It's all just superstition.
