Prices vary in different areas, but in my area, a kitten's first visit runs $26-50, depending on what they get. Sounds like the kitten needs a vet check and possibly a better diet anyway, so you should get it in soon to make sure it's healthy...it may not be able to get it's shots if it's sick. Here's a rundown of what new kittens should get and what my clinic charged (what I can remember for prices anyway)....FVRCP (distemper combo) $13, Exam $13, Fecal check $11 (to check for parasites...most kittens have them), dewormer $3-5, and a FELV/FIV test (this checks for 2 common and deadly diseases...many kittens have this because it's highly contagious among cats) about $15. They need 3 rounds of FVRCP/exam about 1 month apart...most vets charge less for visits 2 and 3. They also need Rabies at 16 weeks. FeLV, FIV, and FIP (another deadly disease) vaccines are available, but they are dangerous...your vet will determine if your cat should get them.

You can just call up your vet and ask them, in fact, you should go through you phone book and compare prices with at least 3 of them. There are 2 vets right in my small town and there is a significant price difference. The one that actually is bigger and has 24 hour emergency care and better facilities is actually the cheaper of the 2.

My kitties had a kitten check up, fecal test, shots, and flea treatment - it was about $35 - $45 - (It's been about 2 yrs ago) Then when they were 3 or 4 months old they were front paw declawed and nuetered and that was about $100.00 for each cat.
If you do choose to get the kitten declawed, it is best to have it done by the time they are 6 months so they will not have paw sensativity for the rest of their life. If you wait too long they will always have pain when jumping down off of high places.

Kittens play by themselves, or with others. Yours may be nocturnal, some kittens prefer to play at night. It could also be sick if it truly doesn't play. Shots average about $25 each depending on your area. Remember also that they need several shots while a kitten. Average is 5 "distemper" shots, 1 rabies, and 2 feline leukemia and FIP shots. After that, you only need to get shots every 1-3 years depending on what brand the vaccine is. Ask you vet if they carry 3 year vaccines. Most vet's also want to give your new pets 3-5 de-wormings and at least one poop sample to check for intestinal parasites.

As you need to get a series of shots, it would be cheapest to get them from the feed store for around $5.00 each and give them yourself. Just pull up the skin and put the needle under the skin. If you are not financially strapped, then spend more and get better service at the vet. You will have to get the rabies shot done at the vet if you live in Florida. I do not know the laws in any other state.
Look at his gums, and if they are white or pale pink, you will also need to get him wormed. This may be why he is so lethargic. As long as he is eating and drinking well, I would not worry too much about his health, but as you bought him, you need to get him to a vet ASAP and have him checked. If he ends up sick and dies too soon from now, you will have no legal recourse to getting either your money refunded or a replacement.

You will need to call vets in your area,as shot costs range from area to area. There are normally 3 to 4 series of shots depending on how your vet sets them up. But the normal time line is 6to 8 weeks, 12 to 14 weeks, 16 to 18 weeks and then your spay/neuter.

Sounds like he could have been too young to leave his mum. We got a kitten exactly the same and found out it was younger than we were told.
Get it to the vet to be on the safe side.

Mine was about $45 for my kitten at the same age. but be prepared to nuter him also, under $60 for mine.

The resting is normal, he is young and will grow rapidly so let him sleep if the vet sais he's healthy.

like babies. some kitten just like to be lazy sleepers... And my old kitten was a stray *i found her in my backyard one morning* and we went and got shots for her right away *incase she had rabies or anything like that.* she got two shots and it was 20 dollars all together. but some other places we called they were 20 dollars a piece. so it mainly depends on where you go. call your local pound. they usually have the shots for cheap.
