Sorry, non-Christians.

Ok folks, let's not get defensive. I would just really like to know what your belief is and why you believe it. I mean, a lot of you take shots at Christians for their belief in salvation through Christ, the Rapture, and even creation. The least you can do is explain where you are coming from.

I know that I have no proof, I just have faith. What perplexes me is that whenever someone dismisses Christianity, it's because we have no proof, but it seems that many of you don't have proof either. And now that I ask about proof, everyone is getting upset.

Let me try to clarify the point of my question. I am a reasonable person. I like to weigh facts before I make a decision. While I have been answering questions on this site, I have noticed that Christians get slammed for their beliefs. As a Christian, I am simply asking..."if you say that I am wrong, if you don't agree with me...why?" If you think I'm wrong, then you must have a reason and I don't think it's irreasonible to ask you to explain yourself so I can understand where you are coming from.
***Agnostics, thank you. I do understand what you are saying. To all others, do you have any reason besides...If I can't expalin it, then it can't be true?

I'm an Agnostic, and my entire "belief" is based on the fact that no one has any proof that their belief is the correct one. I don't think anyone has gotten it right yet, and I don't think we ever will.

I don't have proof. But it is the most logical conclusion, applying Occam's Razor and the Rule of Falsifiability. That combined with the pure illogical contradictions of a supernatural view of the world.

That, and look at the track that science is on. Look at the territory that it has taken from religion over the last 500 years. (That is even more amazing considering how much of a head start that religion had.) Religion used to be the "explanation" for nearly everything and is now just begging for the table scraps of Science and trying to desparately hang onto the few things that science can only prove with 99% certainty(Natural Selection).

Like Damon Runyan said, "The race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong - but that's the way to bet."

But no, I can't prove a modern, naturalistic, scientific view of the world anymore than you can prove an antiquainted, supernatural, superstitions one. Neither is proovable. But quite simply, the first one makes a lot more sense to me, leaves a LOT fewer unanswered questions ("Because God says so" is not a very satisfying answer to the intellectually curious.) and is making steady progress to finding new answers. The second one is out of date, has a LONG history of contradicting science, history, ethics, morality, and itself. It is a shabbily hashed mix of Babylonian and Egyptian mythology, a little bit of Judaism and Hellenism, and topped of with Paul's misogyny and anti-semitism. I seriously cannot understand why anyone with a modern education would want to hold onto that old rag. Maybe it is some form of cultural Stockholm Syndrome ;).

But you can believe what you want. I respect your right to believe in the supernatural, even if I have no respect the the beliefs itself. I lump God in with astrology, phrenology, ESP, UFOs, the Tooth Fairy, and Reganomics. It's hard to respect that kind of stuff.

It's right for me. And that's all the proof I need. There is not one belief that is right for everyone. Otherwise all other religions would be obsolete. As far as slamming your beliefs, I don't know. But no one religion has any more proof than any other. All I have to say about it is that nobody should try to force their beliefs on others, or tell them that what they believe is wrong or stupid. Let people believe what they want to believe.

Given that you do not have any proof that your belief is the right belief, why on earth should I have to prove to you that my belief is the right one either? Quoting the Bible does not mean you have any proof to someone who does not believe that the Bible is the word of God or even true.

Faith is beyond the word written in a book, on a website or anywhere else written by human hand. Faith is believing in something without having PHYSICAL PROOF that it exists. Believing in God requires FAITH and NOT proof.

Well, much like you, we have no PROOF. Just like you have no proof of the existence of your God...

But there are many many intelligent signals that leads one to beleive that there is no God. Take prayer for example. Doesnt seem to work - for ANYONE. Recent experiments have actually shown a negative coorelation between heart surgery patients and prayer. The few who claim to have had prayers answered have ignored other things.....you get diagfnosed with Cancer. You undergo Kemo AND you pray. Cancer disappears....was it God, or Kemo?!?!?! Most likely Kemo....... There are thousands of other examples.... ASk yourself - why are there so many denominations of Catholicism?? They cant ALL possibly be right!! So who is? Seems more likely that none exist, none are true. Look at history - what has mankind fought for for thousands of years? Religion. You mention the Rapture...show me where in your Bible it says anything about this? It doesnt...because it is another man made notion.

So, the choice is yours: Blind faith to religious dogma which breeds intolerance, or logical, thought provoking existence in which you live by the golden rule....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolution
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_bang

we know that micro-evolution (evolution in species) takes place
we know that macro-evolution (evolution from species to species) takes place
we know the age of the universe (professor lubin of ucsb, one of my physics professors, helped figure that one out)
we know the earth is billions of years old
and we can trace human evolution back about 3.2 million years
not to mention revelations is the most fantastic account i have ever read, with nothing based on rhyme or reason, genesis creation accounts are nothing more than a "scientific" travesty, and noah's arc is the funniest thing i have ever read because it is so implausible

read those articles and be filled with knowledge, those arent the only accounts, please feel free to study it on the internet, its all over

i also want everyone here to realize that scientific theory does not mean it is just a thought or an idea, it happened, we have solid evidence, but some things are currently impossible to solidify
this is still far more proof than i have ever seen a christian (or any other religion) present to me, do not say the bible is proof, the bible is a book, thats like saying harry potter is proof of wizards,

What proof do you have that YOUR belief is the right one? As Budda said, there are many paths to enlightenment. If you are seeking your personal Nirvana, then let others do the same for themselves.

I don't know if my beliefs are the right one, but I do know that my philosophies aren't contradictory. I can talk the talk AND walk the walk. You won't see me starting wars for my beliefs. And if someone disagrees with me, then as long as it doesn't affect my way of life then I'd agree to disagree.

I am agnostic, which means I believe that we can not know. You can not give me proof that God exist any more that an Atheist can give me proof that God does not exist. You are the one making the claim that God exist, so it is up to you to prove that point; just as it is an Atheist making that claim that God does not exist, and it is up to them to prove it. I don't have to prove anything because I am making no claim other than I don't know. Although it has been my experience it is a lot easier to prove that something exist than to prove that something doesn't. We don't have the ability to search every corner of the universe; I could tell you that super man exist, you would have no way of proving me wrong because you can not search the whole universe looking for evidence that he does not.

I like you, you sound logical. I don't believe in God simply there is no proof. If you believe the earth go around the sun. Well we need scientific proof and we both knew. rignt? This is what you need to do with God. Don't tell us you see God when you look into the eyes of a child, the beautifull flower, when you touch the earth and God create hurricane because of gay. Come on, this does nothing for us.

It's believers that claim the belief, we don't accept their belief so if anyone is going to need to come up with proof then you believers do...we non-believers have nothing to prove...K!

The onus of providing evidence always sits with the person making the claim...what do you got?
