When our daughter's cord was about to come off, there was some discharge. It was brownish and had a bit of an odor.
It sounds normal to me, but to be on the safe side I say call your pediatrician just to be sure.

I don't remember any discharge at all and my daughter's umbilical cord fell off at 8 days. It seems odd that you're baby still has his. Call your doctor and find out if it's okay.

What are the signs of infection?
Consult your healthcare provider if:
• Your child develops a fever or appears unwell.
• The navel and the surrounding area become swollen or red.
• Pus appears at the base of the stump.

No, it's not normal! you're supposed to use alcohol swabs or let it air out alittle! fold over the top of the diaper. It's a sign of infection, and should be seen by a doctor. Oh yeah, good luck!;)

Call the pediatrician and describe the situation, they may need you to bring the baby in to look at it. My son had something like it and the doc just cauterized it in the office.
