I'm 18 years old and will soon be getting a job. (shut up, I know I'm a little late :)) I know that most places keep people my age until way past closing time. My sister gets home at midnight. Well, I am a full time college student and I will be getting up between 5:30 and 6:30am every day. It takes me a while to get ready for bed and get ready in the morning. A full night's sleep is 8 hours, but in today's world, this is clearly not possible. So, how little sleep can I get away with? How much sleep can I get to still stay healthy? I'm very worried.

Modern sleep studies have shown that 7 hours is best for adults. A small minority of amount of studies have stated 7-7.5 hours, but almost all of them have centered on 7 hours as being ideal. The people who slept 7 hours lived the longest, and had the fewest health problems, compared to those who slept fewer than 7 hours or more than 7 hours. This directly contradicts the commonly stated falsehood that you should "sleep as much as you need." What is more likely is that hundreds of thousands of people are oversleeping and causing themselves poor health in doing so.

Additionally, the study concluded that sleeping more than 7.5 hours is worse than sleeping less than 7 hours.

You body will tell you. Listen to it. Maybe instead of getting ready for bed, or getting ready in the morning you could put on some music. You could dance and sing. I would also suggest a meditative video or soothing scents. What ever you do you will be okay. When you do get an interview make sure to tell them that you have to be off of work by 10:00! Be strong! Good Luck!!
