The immigration website is easy to understand, and the forms and instructions very simple as such things go. You should not need a lawyer in order to fill them out and file them, but should be able to do them yourself with no problem.

Being a teacher ought to be a plus for you, and you might look in to what you need to teach in Canada.

The fees to immigrate to Canada will be $1,000 - $1,500 Canadian funds, depending on various circumstances. This amount includes the neccessary medical exams, etc.

If you can find a job that will sponsor you, they will usually pay some of the fees.

How about writing to various secondary schools in Canada, and asking about a job. You may have to first get certified in Canada to be a teacher here, but if a school really likes your resume they just might be willing to sponsor and help.

Good Luck!
