There is a lot of ignorance on this URL about Mexicans, illegal or not.
Today, those coming to the US from Mexico almost always have a job of some sort in Mexico. A job that pays maybe $20 USD a day.
Weeks; months; years; go by, with just enough money to eat and pay the electric bill and go to sleep and go to work again.
Their children do not have enough money to go to school beyond the minimum required, they must also join the job market to get by.
When the illegals come here, they hope to accumulate enough money to educate their sisters, maybe to build a house with a minimum amount of space for comfortable living; maybe enough money to start some sort of business which will support them in the future. Many take back an old used pickup for the family.
One example I have seen a lot is buying a used straight truck and starting a hauling business of some sort.
Or, maybe open a small store.
My niece is buying up apartments in her home city, and when she returns the last time hopes to receive enough rental to support her and her two daughters who were abandoned by a wonderful Mexican man, sarcasm intended. I tease her she will be a slum lord, er, lady.
Let me spell this out for the public school students. Though I don't know where she is, except that it's California, I have a niece who is an illegal in the US. She usually takes care of elderly people who try to stay in their homes rather then going into a typical death prison that our country is so well known for.
Unlike most of you, I know illegals. I know them in the US. I know them in Mexico. I know their families. Most of them don't want trouble with the law, I mean criminal law. They simply have no respect for our laws that say they can't come and work if they want to.
In my opinion, our treatment of illegals today, when put in perspective of history, will result in our own destruction, just as the Nazi treatment of the Jews destroyed Nazi Germany. I hope after I am gone because I don't want to see it.

The reason they do this, is because of the lack of jobs in Mexico. In America, there is a surpluss of jobs that nobody wants to do and if they are willing, they will travel to America and the do the meanial labour for little pay. Even though they don't make much money, it's still a job; that's better than living in their own country and not having any job.
It's actually ironic, because in the times before the Mexican war, Americans would actually travel to MExico to live because of it's superior economy and job market and abolishment of slavery. It's just funny how the times change.

Mexico has a political system that is so corrupt that even with all the natural resources they have there regular people cannot survive and feed their families.
Our government is becoming the same way. No republicans want to stop this massive invasion because of the cheap labor it provides. No democrats want to stop this because they want to make them legal to get the vote and there are plenty of rich democrats that want this labor too.
For now, these workers make union workers glad they have great job while depressing other workers wages so that union members have more buying power, they have almost already tapped out the companies they work for and have a lot of them in or near bankruptcy so the lower paid workers benefit them.
All of our politics now are so crooked that take New Orleans for example. 75 Billion in damage. We have already spent more than that and most of it remains in shambles.
Our system now is going the Mexican way... but it is still a way for these people to feed their families.

I am Mexican and live in Mexico and have no intentions of living or working in the US. People go there because poverty is painful in Mexico, and they see the US as their only choice to make better money to support their families. Even discounting what they pay to coyotes, poor Mexican illegal immigrants can become middle class in the US relatively fast through hard word, a chance denied to them in their own country.

They all want the chance to work for money that they have no way of making in Mexico just like anyone else that came over here from any other country. The chance you have here of being able to support yourself and a family is far better than in most places especially poor communities in Mexico. Like anyone else the chance at a decent life for you and your family is worth the risk .

Most Mexicans are here purely for the money. One of the biggest growth industries in the Western US is the home construction business for Mexican nationals. They purchase and construct a home back in Mexico from agents here in the US who sell them the land, house design, construction and everything. Then when they've made enough money here in the US they go live in the house they bought in Mexico.
There are however thousands who come here to be Americans or once over here discover they like America. For these people the difference between them other imigrants is only the country of origion and sometimes the method of entry.
Mexicans are only a small part of the illegal imigration population. We have illegals from around the world here. Large numbers of Canadian, Russian, Chinese, Vietmese and especially large numbers of South Americans, Hatians and other countries closer ot the US.
Most South and Central Americans come here purely for the work. Many hate the US as they have been raised in cultures that such hatred is inspired from birth on. Some are here as agents for radical governments like Venuzuala but most are economic refugees from the devastated economies that hundreds of years of corruption, cival unrest and poor economic habits have created. They come here for jobs, for training in trades they can practice back in thier home country. Some come here to escape Gov oppression or being drafted into the army to fight wars they do not care about. Some are here to escape charges in thier home country or to avoid being killed by rival gang members or somebody powerfull who they crossed back home. Some are here to follow family who have come here previously. Sometimes just to sponge of rich American relitives. Some are here to achieve political goals. Most though are just here to work. They have no interest in being American, at least not an American's view of America. They want all the benifits but don't want to join the rest of the country. Don't want to learn English, give up those cultural traits which assured failure in thier home countries or root for Americans not of thier partiucler cultural background.
Think about it, sleeping 4-10 in a one bedroom apt working for almost slave wages is actually an improvement over life where they come from. Over here they make more money, have better health care, more freedom and don't have to worry about some group or Gov agency coming over putting them against a wall and shooting them. THey do not have to bribe a cop to park thier cars and hope that thier car is still there when they get back. They don't have to know somebody to get a job. They just have to show up and be ready to work. So the hard and dangerous work here is much safer than there. Over here there are not parasites in the water system and sanitation even in the worst areas is better than any but the rich in thier home countries have. So much opportunity that they lock themselves out of here but a few take advantage of it and make lives for themselves. In the end few really want to be Americans. They want to form thier own little colony of thier nation here in the US but enjoy all the rights and benifits of being American :(
