he has said "i love you" a couple times, immediatly after he says that it just slipped out, and he hopes he didnt freak me out. also he has told me that he has dreams about telling me he loves me...
does he really love me? why does he cover it up after he says it then?

he does but he needs to man up and stop finding excuses to cover his fear for rejection.
When one is in love, one says it, its about the feeling not about hearing it back

I think this is simple. It just feels complicated because love is always complicated!! He is obviously trying to tell you that he loves you, but is nervous about doing it because you might get freaked out. Maybe if you really love him you should say it and then see what happens. If you are saying it and he is still saying that then you need to just be very forward and say are you in love with me or not. Its not a huge deal. Just tell him that if he isn't yet that there is no hurry you just want to know where you stand in the relationship. Sometimes the relationship gets complicated in this situation, but its unnecessary. If he is not in love or you are not in love, just give it some time. Rushing things is only going to cause problems in the long run. I hope everything works out for you two love birds!!!

He doesnt love you. He probably doesnt even know what love is. Here is a little thing that I like to remember when a time like this comes (and guys and gals, dont go all freaked out on me, it is just a saying and if you dont like it DEAL WITH IT!!!):
When MOST girls say "I love you", they really mean "I love you"
When MOST guys say "I love you", they really mean "I'd love you to take your shirt off"

If he tries to cover it up it either means he really does love you and doesn't want to push you into anything your not ready for, orrrrr he's just fishin for somethin he ain't gettin. Sorry i ain't much more help than that.

yes he indeed does love you. guys say that to cover how they really feel to see what response will be given by a girl and they say that so they can act all macho. but yes he loves you. stay with him
