ok. so i cant decide which to go into. the navy or the coast guard. ppl i have talked to say to go to college first. what should i do??? i need help!!!

It all depends on how tall you are.
You have to be at least 6' to join the Coast Guard; that way if your ship sinks you can walk ashore. But in all fairness the Coast Guard is a very efficient organization, I mean come on, when was that last time a coast went missing?
Seriously though, if you can afford college, go now, (may via an ROTC program) and consider coming into any branch of the service afterwords. And although I poke fun at the CG above, they do perform a vital service both in peacetime and in wartime.

USCG tends to do more local policing of waterways, stopping narcotics and illegal immigration traffic. In times of war, I think that the USCG falls under the Navy's control (but don't quote me, I'm not sure). Navy personnel tend to see more overseas action and travel than USCG sailors. I guess it depends on what you wish to get out of your experience.
