Do you want to get over your fear of dogs or just go to your friend's house? If you just want to go to his house, ask him if the dog can be put away while you're there.
That's not something I'd be willing to do for anyone, though, so if you want to get over your fear of dogs, that might be a better plan. Why are you scared of dogs? Is it all dogs or just dogs who act mean? Maybe your friend could put his dog on a leash when you go over so you know he can't reach you and you can slowly get used to the dog. Just sit near him and talk to him, then when you're ready you could try just petting him.
Hope you can get over your fears.

He could come over to your house if you are uncomfortable with dogs. If that can't work then go to his house. DONT show that you are scared of dogs. Dogs are intelligent. They can and will sense that you are afraid. Different dogs react different to a person being scared. Some might go out of your way to make you feel better and calmer. Some become nervous their selves and some might go for a ....attack though that is very rare. If you really want to over come your phobia of dogs, then be prepared for alot of effort from your part. Don't rush into it! Maybe, hopefully your friend got a little dog or even a puppy for now. I have encountered people that felt calmer and less nervous around a smaller dog then a bigger one. Most dogs are friendly. Start off small. Let the dog( with your friends presence) get your scent. You can do this with out even touching the dog! All you have to do is dangle or lower your hand beneath or above his nose. After he has your scent, draw your hand back....SLOWLY no jerky movements! Then you and your buddy just talk. Ignore the dog, don't pay attention to him/her. After a few days of that while you are "relazing" in the dog's presence then take another step higher. Touching the dog.....maybe a quick pat on the head or back...though no jerking movements to scare the dog! Do that whenever you are at yourbuddy's house and gradually you should get used to being with that dog. Have you talked to your buddy about your fear? He might understand and put the dog away durning your visits if you don't want to be near the dog....
wish i was of help to you, hey maybe a counseler might help

Why are you scared of dogs first of all? Were you attacked or something? If his dog was mean, I'm sure he would of told you of atleast put him outside or something while your there. Just tell him your situation and let him know that you don't want to be around it. You should seriously think about trying to over come your fear. Maybe try to be in the same room but on the other side of the room for a while when the dog is in there, and slowly get used to a dog. There are alot of dogs in this world and sooner or later your bound to come into contact with one. You would probably freak out if you don't aver come this fear. If all else fails then I guess your friend might have to come to your house.

Try going on a walk with your friend and his dog. If you're uncomfortable you can stay out of the dog's reach as he will be on a leash, and you can get used to him that way. After the short walk you should be able to go into your friend's home and the dog should not be crazy excited as he's just walked with you.
If you fear is THAT bad... if you are totally unable to function knowing there is a dog in the house, you may need to get help from a therapist. "Facing your fear" is not enough if you have a TRUE phobia. But here are some helpful links.

I have a friend who is scared to death of dogs too, and when she comes to my house, I have what's called a "shaker can" to give her. Dog's hate loud noises, and if she shakes it at him, he immediately leaves her alone. She feels more secure coming over to our house now, and he leaves her alone!
I have an article on my website that talks more about the shaker can for obedience training.

He has to keep the dog away from you.
Dogs sense fear and their instinct can look upon one as prey.
It will take time and patience for you to conquer the fear, but don't rush it until the dog is friendly.

All I have for you is face your fears! I went to mexico and they had many parrots and I didn't want parrots climbing all on top of me, but I faced my fears and I loved it! Just try it, face your fears.
If that somehow doesn't work try asking your friend if he can put his dog in his backyard while you and your friend are playing inside his house.
Hope I helped!
