I live in Massachusetts, about 30 minutes away from the Rhode Island border and about 45 minutes away from Boston. I have DirecTV with local channels package. The problem is that I'm not able to get any Boston channels, yet I get channels from from Providence, Atlanta, Chicago, etc. I used to have cable television and I used to get channels from Boston, Providence, etc., even all the way from Portugal. So now I can't even watch my local news as I used to be able to do. What should I do? Should I just switch back to the more expensive cable television, once my one-year contract is up?

My sister had that same problem with DirecTV in Wyoming. She switched to Dish Network and now she gets local channels in addition to all the other channels. What they do is install 2 dishes - one is for regular programming, one is for local programming. Try calling Dish Network and see if they can provide local networks in your area. It's much cheaper to go this route than to pay the high price for cable.

First, complain to DirecTV. They may have connected you to the wrong satellite for locals. If they won't help, find another service. But, in addition to that, call those local stations and tell them your problem. Those stations will not like it that DirecTV is not carrying them in their market area, and they will do something about it.
