You were if you accepted Jesus into your heart. But then if you reverted to atheism then you just back slid BIG time. But you can always ask for forgiveness and recommit yourself to God.

Once saved always saved. Very popular saying but is it accurate. Traditionally that is what we are taught. But saved in the Greek means, healed or delivered. Jesus said you must be born again to enter into the kingdom of heaven, which is by believeing that He is the Son of God and He died and rose again (ressurected) and now sits on the right hand of the Father. Jesus gave a parable of when He comes back, He said many will come to him saying Lord Lord, but he will say He doesnt know them, they will reply saying, but we profesied healed and done wonders in your name, but He says He doesnt know them to depart from Him. Why is that? Jesus has got to become Lord. We can not serve 2 Lords ( Satan and Jesus) You can turn from Him but He said He will never leave or forsake you. As long as you are born again, and do His will (knowing His will because He is your Lord) then you will not want to turn because you see the true Love, the true compassion and mercy of the One the died for you. Took all your pain, suffering, sin that leads to death. All this before you even gave your first breathe. He even knew that you was going to sin and probably even talk bad about Him but He still did it. He still got nailed and gashed beaten untill He was unreconizeable. So yes you can be born again and still revert, but only because you didnt make Jesus truly Lord over your life. He gots to become Lord, He bought you with a price. How does anyone know for sure that they have been "saved" if they aren't dead? I dunno, this is one thing about fundamentalists that always bugged me when I was a kid, the whole "I can do anything I want because Jesus died for me and washed away all of my sins." Sounds like faulty logic and pretty disrespectful to me.

So, in answer to your question, no you were never saved. I guess there is always tomorrow though.
