Hi,

Easy one depending on where you live. What type of kayaking, white water or flat water?

If you are wanting to get into white water kayaking Ill offer some advice.

Everyone is different in their body mechanics and skill sets and theres a TON of different body styles out there. Youd regret going out and buying a hardshell without having someone evaluate you first. A good instructor would know by watching you what kayak would best fit you according to your size, mechanics and skill.

Also, if you want to run white water, spend the money and take the classes. It will make you a better kayaker, the better you are, the more fun youll have and you wont be getting in the way of the guys that are out there everyday. Buddy up with them and you can learn a lot.

Also, if you go to an out fitter to buy a new ride, theyll try to sell you whats hot. Some kayaks are easier to roll, some track better, some edge better, it all depends on what best suits you.

Ok, that being said. The big joke is when some joker with too much money buys his gear ($2,000-3,000) runs down a class4 and decides running rapids isnt his thing. Thats the best way to buy your gear and it happens all the time. Ask any instructor, buddy up to them and theyll be able to get you into a nice ride for pennies on the dollar.

Bottom line, dont buy a kayak just because the opportunity arises. Having the right kayak for you will multiply your fun and safety.

If you ever ride in Idaho drop me a line. Scubadog35@yahoo. Were always looking for people to float with.

I just recently started "kayaking". I used to think that all kayakers did, was go down rapids, and have to get rescued when it floods. I now know, there are other ways to kayak. Some people like to kayak on the ocean, Some like rivers, and others like the peaceful lakes. There are sit inside, and sit on top kayaks. Also, some people like to just paddle around, while others drop a line and catch a fish or twenty. Our first kayak was bought on Amazon.com, it is made by Coleman, it was inflatable, and only cost $60.00! NO SHIPPING !!! It gave us the chance to see if we really liked it, and gave us a chance to save for new kayaks. If you have an R.E.I. near you, they have a deal online where you can get a Pungo classic for $399.00 plus tax. but you better jump on it now.

Kayaking demands many skills. Swimming means or being comfortable in water is the first requirement. you'd be in a position to favor to appreciate the safe practices regulations and understand the lake, river or ocean circumstances you choose to paddle in. Inquire at your community branch of organic and organic aspects workplace for community regulations. The act of kayaking demands paddling skills to administration your boat as correct as rolling means to acceptable it even as dissatisfied. practise are the perfect and least complicated thanks to benefit the criteria.

Try this paddling site: www.paddling.net where there is a messageboard and a category for classifieds. I have found this site very helpful in the past when I have had equipment questions.
