If the Bible is completely accurate, then you believe in a highly paranoid and schizophrenic being who doesn't really seem to care much about your fate...

The bible was written by men under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit - always remember this. Because God wrote the book it is accurate. The bible never claims the earth is flat or the sun is revolving around it - although people at that time probably believed that. In fact there is more and more evidence that the bible is scientifically correct as scientific discoveries are made that coincide with what the bible has always said.

To find out how science and the bible go together (showing how accurate the bible is) look at some of these websites that talk about the questions you are asking:

In response to the Noah-Ark statement. In many older religions there are similar tales of the world being covered in water and a Hero building an ark, such as Greek mythology and some Indian religions. So these Bible stories were told in many different religions, I believe they happened. History is passed down by word of mouth from generation to generation. the stories, of course, become altered, but you get the jest. You can also check out these stories and other tales at www.worldhistory.com

The question of Noah's Ark and the flood has been debated for centuries. There are those who see the term "world" as "the known populated land of that day"....others will insist it was completely global. In that the account states that the tops of the highest mountains were covered, it would obviously impact an enormous part of the world, if not all.

Some would argue points such as; 'If the Flood was local, the ark (given its dimensions) would seem to have been unnecessarily large'. However, those types of arguments are merely speculation. Whether local or global, the impact/results would be the same....

The Old Testament Bible is a work of art associating Jewish tradition and belief in a God...all tied up in a neat little Package. Stories of a great flood is known in ever ancient culture including the Americas.
Some scientists think that there was once a great flood and archaeologists have found evidence of many floods in the area of ancient Babylon.
Every year scholars are uncovering more Historical truth as recorded in the Bible. Believe it or not, the Old Testament may will be the very best true source of ancient History.

In all possible worlds the bible could be completely accurate, but so could Hitler be the reincarnation of Jesus Christ. Just because something could be metaphysically true does not make it actually true in reality.

In my opinion, and I graduated in religious studies and was a hard core fundamentalist for 2 years of my life, the bible is a mixed bag at best. Some things are accurate, some things are not, and other it simply does not matter.

The small stuff you should not sweat like creationism, Noah's arch. etc. Other things like the burning of witches, prescribed gender roles, God predestining souls to suffer forever for his glory, God commanding genocide, as well as other equally horrible things, damn straight you should question. In fact I'd say it is your moral obligation to do so.

Remember God has put his moral compass in ever heart. If God did not do such a thing we could not recognized ethical truth from error. I know in my heart that God is much much better than the bible has often betrayed God's name.

As for the things I do believe are true in the bible can be summed up by loving your neighbor as yourself and loving God with all you heart, mind, and soul. If you meditate on these verses as your foundational verses to believe in, you will not be steered wrong.

Blessing on you ever continuing journey back into the Heart of God.

The bible isn't completely accruate. A lot of it is people's personal re-tellings of what they saw, heard and witnessed. Humans make mistakes.

I think a good habbit to get into is to look at the bigger picture of the bible.. When you read the story of Noah and the ark don't read it as a flood flooding the world - but learn from it that: 1) God does get angry, and one day we will be judged. 2) Noah, who was loyal to God was loved by God and kept safe by God.

You have to keep in mind the bible was written for all of mankind - but much of it was written for those living thousands of years ago. And so stories were used to give people a better understanding of God's love - this means that some of it may not be as relevant/accurate to us, and so that's why we need to see a bigger picture :)

Excavations of ancient Babylonian tablets have corroborated the Biblical story of the Flood. Many facts concerning kings, nations, cities and events have been brought to light in ancient records confirming Scripture in history. The book of Isaiah 40:22 confirms that the earth is round. Science is still catching up to the facts in the Bible. The Bible is not meant to be a science book but a letter to us from God on how to know Him, love Him, worship Him, have a relationship with Him, how to love each other and how to know for sure that we will go to heaven some day when we die.
The Bible cannot be understood by the natural man. That means that you must know Jesus Christ as your Saviour and be born again. Only God can reveal the deep truths of the scriptures to you. Find a good Bible believing church and pray for the Lord to help you to understand His Word. He will not disappoint you.

The best way for you to understand these things is to read your Bible and watch some of the scientific shows on television. For example. Satellites have discovered an elevated ring that goes all around our planet. Some scientists believe that is where most of the water came from and went back to. Look into some rocks laying around on open ground. some have little sea shells in them.
There is evidence that water covered the earth at one time or other. Evidence has been found of the ark on Mt. Ararat where the Bible says it came to rest.
The Bible is very accurate.

There are some things in the Bible that are accurate, but mostly it is symbolic and not literal. There are so many bad things in there that if it were judged with the same measure as many other books, it would be banned from the library. Man actually created God, many Gods, over time because he was afraid of dying. Then he has for ages gone out to kill those who don't believe as he does. Most people believe that there is now only one God. He is the same for Jewish, Christian, and Muslim ... the killing goes on and on and so there is your answer.

I don't think anyone would take the Bible word for word. It's not like Jesus had a stenographer during the Sermon on the Mount.

The story of Noah's Ark could have been handed down through generations as other stories were. I don't know what to say to make you feel better, but I'll bet your Pastor could help you!
