I have been to a psychiatrist who had given me multiple disgnosis in a matter of minutes and treated me accordingly. I found the medication unagreeable and I discontinued them on my own. This was 3 years ago. As of now, my symptoms have changed.
My mood changes very quickly from " up and happy " to a bit down in the dumps. My thoughts seem to race as son asI awake from topic to topic. I feel deep anxiety regarding certain topics in my life including work. Sometimes (increasingly less in frequency) I become quite angry and hae some difficluty controling my temper. I am not physical in my anger (I used to be). My fights seem to be with my wife the most (ver stupid things). I fing myself regretting the fights after things cool down because my repsonses were not proportionate to the actual fight. I go too far with things I say but I can not control my mouth quite often. Any ideas out there. I could use the input. I love my wife and do not want to subject her to this any longer.

Unfortunately, that's not enough info. to help you w/ a diagnosis. :( You could be bipolar, borderline, or have an anxiety disorder. I would recommend giving therapy a shot. Meeting with someone weekly would give them the chance to get to know you and make a proper diagnosis. From there, you guys can consider medication and a referral to a good psychiatrist.

Good luck! You deserve help and support. :)

This does indeed sound like Bipolar Disorder, but there also appears to be the possibility that there is a comorbid anxiety disorder. The symptoms you explain regarding feeling up and at 'em are symptoms of mania, which is at one end of the spectrum of Bipolar (literally meaning, two poles: Mania, and Depression). During manic episodes people will often do things that they would otherwise not do, for example start fights, arguments, and become irritated or aggitated.

The feeling down in the dumps feelings are symptoms of depression which can also occur during the course of Bipolar Disorder.

Medication to treat Bipolar usually includes a mood stabilizer such as Lithium Bicarbonate, commonly known as just Lithium. This is a drug which must be closely monitored by a health professional, as the effective dose and the lethal dose are quite close to each other. In other words, too much can do some serious damage. Also, such anticonvulsants as Depakote, which is used for many conditions including Epilepsy, work to reduce mood swings.

If you are switching from manic 'highs' to depressive 'lows', than it sounds like this would be Bipolar Disorder with Rapid Cycling. Talk to your psychiatrist, then do yourself a favor and see a clinical psychologist as well. This would be the most appropriate means to help your problem, and both will work in conjunction with your primary care physician (your doctor) to organize the best treatment options. They will, of course, only be in contact with one another with your permission only. Good luck, and be healthy.

From what you have shared, you could have Borderline Personality Disorder. I agree with the ones who also say it may be Bipolar. Are you very sensitive? Do you get angry at responses from others that you find offensive, that really are only a reply?
Look this disorder up. But, you know, you could also have some anxiety disorders as well. I know a lot of people don't like doctors, but mental illness is the same as any other disease, whether it is cancer, MS, it has to be treated just the same. There is nothing to be ashamed about, going to a psychiatrist. You are taking care of yourself. Your quality of life may improve with a GOOD DOCTOR, that spends more than 10 minutes with you. In order to make a good and correct diagnosis, you have to have a doctor who listens to you and writes everything down on paper. Don't go back to the same one, if you choose to go back to one. Find a different one. Good luck...

The up and down moods sounds like manic depression but with manic Depression usually you ups are so high you act over the top strange and your low's you would stair at a wall for days and do NOTHING. The fighting and anger stress & anxiety sounds like you have a hard time dealing with things that come your way, it's the little things that would make you blow up. Try to take a class in meditation and learn to relax more. If the meds are not working for you go try something from the health food stores. Try St.John's Wort for the depression. or you could try healing stones -Amethyst, Angelite, Aventurine are for stress. Kunzite, Rutilated quartz are for bi-bolar disorder. It's worth a try anyways!

You need to get yourself some help. You should not have ended your treatment on your own you should always consult with your doctor if the meds aren't working than he/she will prescribe a different med and ween you off of the previous unsuccessful one. Sometimes it takes a long time to find the medication that works for you. I have major depression and i have been on several meds and i still don't know if the one im currently taking is right for me. It sounds to me like you have manic depression also known as bipolar disorder which is a very serious illness that you need to get taken care of right away before you hurt yourself or your family.

Contrary to what I'm certain 90% of answerers will tell you, I very much doubt you're bipolar, unless there's a lot you're not telling us. However, you may have cyclothymia which is similar and related. Still, I'd rather that you consider the possibility of borderline personality disorder. Check out the DSM-IV entry on it and see what you think: http://www.psychologynet.org/bpd.html
If that leaves you unsatisfied, here's some information on cyclothymia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclothymia

And if you agree to meds, don't quit on them without the guidance of a doctor. Suddenly removing a chemical from your body can cause your problems to become catastrophically worse.

when u go to a psychiatrist and he prescribe u medications...if it doesnt agree with you, don't just stop them...it can be a recipe for disaster esp for psychiatric meds....anyway tell ur psychiatrist that its not working for you then he can substitute with something else. Always remember that all medications will have side effects...some of it mild enough to be felt by some... but most of it have side effects that u just have to deal with so ur condition will be treated....
most important of all, don't wait for 3 years before seeing the doctor

You have anxiety. I have it too. The best way I found to deal with this is to get a regular work out schedule, like stationary biking and weights and to take some career related classes at a community college. Usually, it's related to an inner fear,, a sixth sense that you are not prepared for the challenges comming up in life. Just prepare, prepare, prepare. work hard and it should subside.

These are typical characteristics of bipolar disorder, although only a true medical professional can diagnose you . I've sorry you've had difficuly with previos medical health professionals, but it is their place to perscribe medication and treat you. See a phsychiatrist as soon as possible. Good luck- I know where you're coming from. *hug*

i would say depression. Most depression victims have good memories and are able to remember tragic things that happened to them a while back. Those memories create anger and anxiety. i think you should see a psychologist instead of a psychiatrist, ur not crazy. you just need to sit down and think things over an lear to approache things in a different way.
