why do they get such a negative onslaught of "Move somewhere else" or "What else do you suggest, Dictatorship?!?!" That is so unhelpful. When someone takes the time to point out that there is something wrong with America, like the majority religion is getting too much control, why can't people realize that it's an effort to IMPROVE America? Even if you don't agree with the problem, why take it so personally and shoot down genuine points? I bet anti-racists got a lot of flak also, but we are a better country for their CONTINUING persistence. We certainly have some rough spots in "freedom and justice for all," so why not openly identify and fix them instead of persecuting the whistle-blowers?

Paragraph from the US State Department’s International Religious Freedom Report in 2004:

“And so religious freedom endures as an ideal, even while threats to it never cease. Though naturally endowed in all people, freedom does not occur naturally in the world. History bears abundant witness to the enduring tension between freedom’s resilience as a natural aspiration of the human heart, and freedom’s fragility in the reality of human life. While the number of people living in freedom around the world today is strong and growing, too many others still suffer under oppressive regimes, authoritarian rulers, and intolerant systems. Freedom may be a reality for many, but it remains still only a dream for too many others.”

There is a lot wrong with America but the problem is more complex than just the system of government. I criticize this country and it's policies plenty. But I also try to make change happen by voting for whom I think will help create that change. In my age group - late 30's a good number of my peers do not vote at all. They feel their concerns are not being addressed.

America is not perfect and never will be - perfection is unobtainable. However, it could be better. The problem is when you have so many who are content with the status quo that are the biggest voting block... unless the dissatisfied make themselves heard change is hard to come by.

It's hard to tell who's being genuine or not on Yahoo answers, and given the the world really does have a lot of blind-america-haters at the moment, I'm not surprised. You may want to add a little clarification to your questions to make it known that your not like that. It will probably help you get some more sincere answers.

I think there is some bigots in this country and it seems that they get most of the attention. Hence Ann Coulter, why I dont know. I guess it's more amussing than real news. you know like Irak and Lebannon. If we had an independent media which we dont have, things migth be more balanced. im sick of all this BS, where number one, the land of the free and all of that BS. We think we are the S****. I love my country but I also respect other people's costums and religion. I mean who am I to judge other cultures we have our own foes.

It's so typical for humans to attack and try to snuff out the person who sees the "pink elephant" that no one else sees....But then, if that person happens to do something great, people want to worship him or her....

I bet the guy who solved one of the world's most difficult math problems recently who is now shunning the million dollar award from the math community could tell us some tales of how they treated him, when he was just a nobody...

Same old stuff, just different faces....human pride.

By all means, criticize away: there are many problems with the ol' USA. It is the provence of the true patriot to criticize what he sees as a problem. Only a moron takes the "we rule... 'cause we... uh... kick ***" kind of jingoistic claptrap line.

I think it was Al Franken who said something along the lines of, "Too many people love America the way a six year old loves his mommy. 'My mommy is perfect in every way and should never change and don't you dare say anything bad about my mommy you big poopy head!' The way we should love America is the way you love a spouse or a close friend; you recognize their faults, love them anyway, and try to help them change for the better."

Well I do love my country and anyone who loves their country or even feels very strongly about something that you may take for granted will defend it !

If you think the USA is defensive, look at the Muslims and arab countries. They will kill you...... Talk about crazy and extreme
